Whether we think it's too soon or not, the tax man is coming and he doesn't take IOUs. Prince has always planned for Paisley Park to become a museum and center for musical arts. That was intention from the moment he started building it and why he saved everything there. If there wasn't the tax pressures, I would probably feel it's too soon as well. However, the choice his family faces is open it now and try to get some revenue going to pay that tax bill or wait and possibly lose PP forever. That would break a lot more hearts than opening it too soon has. I can't bear that thought so I'll gladly give them the money for my tour. I'll probably be crying the whole time but I find a little solace in knowing that my admission will help keep it as a museum and musical center (or maybe not but at least they tried).

TRUTH.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Right. I refuse to support his family and business team. They will never get a dime from me. EVER. And I am not the only one feels that way. The family should worry about eventually explaining to the public why they continue to sit back and letting the media label Prince as a drug addict instead of telling people what actually happened on April 21 rather than chasing dollars. Privacy is one thing but trying to cover up for the disguised of perserving legacy due to out of shame is downright mess up. have any of them even mention about any of Prince's after death profits going to charities he supported? It is like all they care about money, money, money. Damn I wish Prince left a will. sad

The worst part for me, is when this hair brained scheme fails, the will blame Prince. The media will jump on a narrative that not enough people cares about him and his legacy to keep it open. They will further tarnish the man's legacy.

This is what worries me too - I have a bad feeling that after the hype people wont travel there as it sounds like it is out of the way? He has international fams and many of us may never get there, so if most of the foot traffic there is mostly Americans I wonder how many times people would keep going back seeing it not in a high tourist area?

People then ask "what about the family? They need the money!" Well that's a different story too. Most times the family donates the property or creates an endowment to preserve it. It's done out of love. I've been to Hearst Castle in California, and the family eventually had to donate it to the state to keep it open. And that's right off the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway where there is a constant flow of traffic. And most major museums are either care of the super wealthy collector's personal collection funded by collector himself, or by a major metropolitan city.

Prince is an important artist. But he was never truly a mainstream artist, especially at his peak. He was always controversial. Like most important artists are. The family would have to do some soul searching besides money searching if they really cared about Paisley Park.

--- Prince sold 50 million records. He was a mainstream artist. The mgmt is competent and has experience let's the estate give this a try.

Welp, Sheila E. was on Good Day Philadelphia and said it was too soon to open PP. I wonder did she know they were working on this and did share this opinion with the family? I hate the fact that this stuff gets played out in public. And I love Sheila but she doesn't have to deal with the estate and managing his affairs. She can show up at a memorial or do a tribute performance and then go off to her life. She doesn't have to figure out how bills are going to be paid and where the money is going to come from to pay estate taxes in January. I feel for the family and everyone involved because these money issues can't just be pushed aside. It sucks all around. sad

Agree with you. I'm appalled at all the bitching and complaining everywhere about the current action plan re Paisley Park. People have bitched repeatedly that they want PP to be a museum...the trust lets them know it's gonna happen and they have a plan....then there's continual bitching that it's too soon, not being done right, anger that there's a fee for a tour, etc... Who the hell is supposed to pay taxes and all manner of upkeep and staffing for PP...the heirs? GTFOH, why should they? Go ahead and keep it up and when they say forget it, there's no way to pay the taxes so they are selling PP to get rid of that debt then those who are bitching will have no one to blame but themselves. They don't owe us ANYTHING but have made an effort to keep PP for the fans. Wth is wrong with people? Be happy they are recognizing that fans want to see this happen and STOP bitching about it!

I swear that some days I think Prince fans think they are entitled to everything for free. Where did anyone EVER get that idea?

[Edited 8/25/16 17:48pm]

-- You have at least two generations of people who have no concept of basic economics. The building cannot sit unused and it cannot have free events. Even Prince's events were not free because he had bills to pay. The family does not have Prince's touring money anymore they will get disbursements from royalties but in why should they use that money to keep a empty building open. Now is a good time to do it while the public is still interested. Let the family try this out thus far I think they are honoring their brother. I do not think his sisters loss of weight or his cousins red rimmed eyes were faked. I think they are hurting and the attacks they are getting are unfair.

Menes

Though the tour may be impromptu, someone was wise enough to understand that rather than letting this building go into foreclosure, turn it into a business while people are still interested in his body of work and legacy. At the least, the family and close friends will be giving us something a lot closer to what they imagined Prince would have wanted it to be.

The alternative would have been that a group of private investors would have bought it for pennies on the dollar, wrestle all creative control of a concept and eventually create their own theme . I am not in mourning , nor am I in denial about him being gone, so to me, this makes the most sense to open it as soon as is possible. It's an economically sound decision.

This. We can all be way too judgemental at times. Give the family a break and see how it goes.

Wish I could afford VIP prices. But I clearly screwed up somewhere because I got two tickets : one for 38.50 and one for 50.00. not sure wtf I did that the 2nd ticket was 50.00. I'm really annoyed.
