Prince and makeup

It's hard to understand... I thought he looked most handsome with no makeup or very little. What's the buzz on how he was in private, did he need to makeup just to work at PP?

http://prince.org/msg/7/409271

As a woman I feel I need at least a bit of makeup to look polished, but I'm lazy and really dislike it. If I could go without and feel pretty I would.

He was certainly handsome with nothing on his face!

Most people (especially men) can't spot "natural" looking makeup on anyone. He's rarely been photographed without foundation & eyeliner through most of his career. I want to say he discovered eyeliner by Dirty Mind but I'm so used to seeing it I'd have to look. Definitely established a routine by 1999. The only "recent" times he's been seen without it is that TRC presser (white sweater, glasses), & random airport photos. But who gives a shit, he was beautiful, enhancing his pretty. Most of the men on tv are wearing it & you have no clue, P just added eyeliner & shadow to his equation - not hard to understand at all, he pulled it off & soaked many panny drawz while he was at it exclaim

This is one of my favorite photos of Prince, no makeup ... just his natural beauty. If I could have one night with any era Prince, it would be this one.

I'm the exact opposite of you; makeup irritates me to no end, and I finally stopped trying to wear it after I realized how much money I was wasting on something I'd only put on every 6 months at the MOST.

I happen to like my makeup free face, so I'm weird.

Go without it for a week -- you might find yourself enjoying your own natural beauty! I'm personally convinced nobody needs to wear makeup at all, though. I admit I'm weird.

That's a Robert Mapplethorpe photo that was in Interview Magazine.

he was a good looking man, he didn't need it. You know, there are a lot of women who look completely plain/different without makeup, but men, when they are considered good looking, usually do so without the benefit of any makeup. I think Prince, prime being smack dab in the middle of the era of androgyny and he himself being a leader of that era, found it really hard to ever stop wearing the stuff. People have pointed out on here that his makeup hadn't looked as well put together the last two years, it's true, he seemed to be just letting go a little bit, why that is, who knows. Ironically, his religion would probably not let anyone else in their group wear the stuff Prince did, how the religion rationalized that i don't know but they are a very strict sect.

I recently read that Prince went to Mapplethorpe's final grand party that was held prior to his death...anyone have any info or pics? Has anyone ever spoke about the Backstory of the Prince/Mapplethorpe photo shoot? It would be an interesting piece of history.

A lot of artist wore make-up on stage back when Prince started. Little Richard was said to be one of Prince's idols back then and he wore a lot. Prince was just naturally good looking but I heard he did wear eye makeup off stage sometimes.

I'd be out of a job if that was the case lol

I wish I was brave enough to leave the house without makeup. Very rare when I do.

He pulled it off so well, one of the many wonders of P heart

I wondered the same thing!

I also wondered if he did mani/pedis...just for the grooming, not for colored polish.

He always looked so polished and well groomed.

Fake lashes are pretty easy to spot, & I don't recall him ever wearing fakes. The funny thing is, some men have crazy long lashes that women would die for lol I'm guessing he was vain enough to use that lash stuff that makes them grow (it works) & mascara up the yang...

I always thought his lashes were natural. (He had plenty of hair everywhere else - why would his eyes be any different?) And in the 80s, he probably mascara'd the hell out of them.

He may have used fakes (you can have individual lashes glued in). But I doubt he used the kind where you glue on a full row. You'd be able to see the band.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

RevitaLash is one - look up "lash serum" or "enhancer", you might have to sort through to get to them but there are a few. I've used RevitaLash & RevitaBrow - both work if you stick with them, but once I get the fullness I want, I forget about it & have to restart lol

When I was on stage in 2005 and I seen him one step away, I was suprised by the little freckles he had on his cheek I thought they were so cute! He had no makeup on and looked natural...like a guy you would walk past on the street and not even think twice.

Sure, up at the top click on "Img", now go to your picture and you copy the address. Do this by pushing on the pic until you see "copy". Come back here and do the same after "Img" only this time it will say "paste". The address should appear after "Img". Now press Img one more time after the address of the photo.

I am totally with you. It's some combination of the high waisted jeans, the pose and the expression. It's weird, I look at it, and obviously it looks like P, but at the same time, it doesn't look like P at all to me. Too much 'you called about your plumbing ma'am' and not enough freaky, flirty, goofy, or twinkly...I think this is what P looks like when he tries too hard to be dudely in anything other than his own particular badass way...No worries, he'll figure it out soon enough smile
