So If Prince & Rick James Had Done A Duet

What would've been called? hmmm

Who would've written, arranged, & produced it?? hmmm [think it would've been a team effort?]

And how would've it had sounded? hmmm

And Oh Yeah!!!

And whose album would've been on? hmmm

Chaos & Disorder is good lol

If they would've done a duet (which would have been very unlikely even if they both were still among us) then the song probably would have been called 'Prince Should Never Take The Place Of MC Hammer' or 'U can't Touch Prince' or 'I hate his guts but it's all about the money money money'.
Lyrics by Rick James. Music and all instruments by Jamie Starr. The song ends with an MJ's Thriller like goosebumps haunting, echoing laugh from Prince.

Do I like Rick James? Eerh...

How about "Helluva drug" with Prince playing the Charlie Murphy role in the video, using the Chapelle skits of Prince and Rick.

According to Rick's lights/effects tech (Pyro John), he stated (on the old Rick James site forum) that Rick and P did collaborate on a song idea (before they went on tour). John said that he only heard the intro (supposedly played to him by Rick on a boom box) very quickly and he turned it off. He said it sounded "psychedelic, swirly and funky". Who knows if it's true or not, but it makes for good folklore.

Ah, c'mon, Rick had some classic songs.

Something with the two of them might have been cool back in the day. Both had the funk thing going on but Rick was hating on Prince big time back then. During the fire it up tour Prince was opening for him, he talked mad shit about Prince. Calling him a little wierdo and something is wrong with him. His songs are about oral sex and incest.etc...and how he doesn't understand how people liked him and his music ..

Rick was just getting salty because he was the bad boy in town and here comes this prince guy who was far more fearless and outrageous than him and he didn't like it.

"Im Rick James Bitch " whos this lil mfka think he is with his shenanigans? ?

Yes, he did and those were hits. But his last landmark was in the early eighties and then he played a role in an episode of the A-Team series. That said enough. The way he expressed himself about Prince pissed me off.
Prince & Rick James = Prick James. lol

I agree that it would be cool to hear a Jamie Starr produced Rick song. The duo name could be Rick Starr or Jamie James. Prince would have to take his Oberheim brass ish sounds to the max. I think Rick James would sound really nice on productions similar to everything from Dirty Mind to 1999. The rawness would suit him. We gotta remember Rick James can SANG. Listen to him with Neil Young, back when they were called Mynah Birds, all the way back in the 60s. Rick James was really talented, but destroyed his career with heavy drug usage.

ya rick hated the fuck out of prince but the dudes both had major talent, James fizzled out and Prince kept going, another thing that made him special in this business. Rick's hate is like that scene in Carlito's way where carlito hates on the benny blanco character and the guys tells him "it doesn't make sense that you should hate this guy because this guy is you 20 years ago" Men usually don't respond kindly to threats, just part of our dna.

I do agree on the comparison between Carlito Brigante and Rick James, but I prefer Carlito handsdown. The comparison between Benny Blanco and Prince is hmmmm... I do prefer Prince.
After all these years I still hate Benny for killing Carlito. wink

i was just drawing the similarity in the feeling. I could understand it, I remember when I worked at a grocery store, there was this fucking kid who I liked but I kinda hated. He was sooo goddamned cocky that I loved to bust his chops. Why? because I was like that when i was 18 and it got crushed out of me. so i was really hating the loss of self and resenting him for being that way. It was kinda good natured, because i'm a nice guy, but it's the same dynamic. Sometimes I still wonder where that guy is now, probably in his mid-thirties, balding and married, just like everyone else.

I feel ya. What pissed me off back then was the comment I read back then that RJ hated Prince's guts and called him something like an untalented screaming MF with stockings. I always felt like this had nothing to do with music but with bribging someone down on personal grounds. Don't know how the media influenced all this (they often do), I didn't like it. But getting back to the music: I had RJ's album Street Songs on vinyl and it was a strong album though.

I would've loved to have heard a collaboration between these two. Had Rick lived a little longer, then MAYBE it could've happened, but I don't think that it was meant to be back then. They both saw each other as competition and they were both raging egomaniacs. But in my mind... these two would have made a fantastic album together.

Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever!

ya, you think that was bad, you should read what he said about P in his book. Do a search on here for details. To me it was funny as hell. But yes, he said some pretty negative things, he called Prince 'sick" which is probably about the worst thing he called him.

Why did RJ have such a strong opinion about P? Was he secretly in love with him?? But I will do what you suggested. I'll do a search.

just jealous, also they just had all kinds of things go wrong between them, Prince snubbed Rick's mom, Prince stole Rick James' moves and used them in his opening act making it look like rick was the thief. The rivalry helped Prince a lot more than it helped Rick, Prince also copied the idea of a girl group off the Mary Jane Girls, and I guess he took a couple ladies off of Rick's crew too. Prince, for his part, never had a negative thing to say about Rick (or anyone really) and played You and I shortly after Rick's death. You ask me, I think Prince really did respect Rick a lot.

And Rick stole the idea of a girlgroup from Maurice White's Emotions. And Maurice Whie stole it from etc etc....
P stole RJ's moves? Did RJ have the perception of himself bring able to dance?

well, stole or learnt, Rick did have a great rapport with his audience, Prince was a shy retiring figure so it helped him. was rick the first to do call and response with the audience? of course not. Prince did not have a strong live act when he was doing that, so it's great that he learned. Jealousy is the main answer though, it's a male thing, going back to when we were monkeys hanging around trying to get the female monkeys. It's going to be around for awhile yet and we all have it, or, if you don't believe that we evolved, our bible starts there too with cain and abel. I've been all around and it doesn't seem that people who should know better have any control of this primal thing of wanting to be the alpha male.

Haha you're funny and you're right!
You know we as humans only differ around 0,06% in DNA from monkeys btw
