Playtime

NO TROLL THREADS! NO SOLICITING FOR BOOTLEGS! Discussion is fine, so long as the bootleg is not being promoted e.g. pre-release; requests/offers to share or copy, and links to download or bootleg sites are not. Posting Prince and associated artist videos from sites such as YouTube is also not allowed. Posts of this nature will be deleted and repeat offenders will be first warned, and then banned. Troll threads, fake tracklists, and attention seeking rumor threads will be also be swiftly dealt with. These rules are strictly enforced! .......... luv4u

It's 5:30 AM here and I need to go to sleep but OMG. I am listening to 4DaFunk's Playtime for the first time and it's blowing my mind. I've heard a lot of the songs before. A few I haven't. And some of the versions are new to me too. What's blowing my mind though is the ... scale of it. It's a 4 CD set - that's four hours - of songs often-played-live/never-available-as-studio-versions. Four hours with no hits, no B sides, no filler even, no connection to his recorded body of work. And some of the songs are so good that ... I kind of want to smack him upside the head for not releasing them.

Details here . The last sentence at that link gives you some idea of the incredible editing that has been done - "the sheer pleasure of listening to all these joints together flowing seamlessly as if it all were part of a single live performance, will at times- we hope- make you succumb to the illusion that you are being treated to "the impossible aftershow"!" - and also why it's so damn hard to stop listening and go to sleep!

But zzz

Don't forget to replace Our Destiny and Roadhouse Gardem with the soundboard versions that surfaced on From The Soundboard: 1984 Birthday gig that surfaced after Playtime was compiled.
