Streets of Panama?

Was this 3121 outtake ever in circulation or at least heard by someone here (even if from that secret circle of Prince outtake collectors)? I'd love to have any kind of info about it smile. I love the other song that was going to be on 3121, The Morning After, which should've been released on cd...

I'm 99% sure it's not circulating.

Reason being, I've been pretty vocal about my love for the 3121 era, and somebody would have offered it to me by now in exchange for other stuff.

But, I could be wrong.

Prince's little love affair with Panama came about because he was hooking up with Liza Hernandez, who he renamed Liza Lena and allegedly he produced a whole album for her, and furthermore he definitely had domain names registered with her stage name.

Obviously that album never came out and her association with Prince seemed to disappear as quickly as it started. Chances are that's why the track got cut from 3121.

I suspect the 3121 movie is tangled up with all that stuff as well, since it was partially shot in Panama and Liza was in it. Perhaps that's the reason the re-edited Lotusflow3r version of the movie was made. Maybe someone who has seen both can tell us if Liza ended up being edited out.

After google-ing "Liza Hernandez", and seeing her pictures, I think Prince better could have named her "Liza Electra" razz

Well, the Lotusflow3r version was shown (either partially or completely) at the launch party in LA. The word is that it was actually live on the website as late as the evening before launch and Prince pulled it at the last minute.

I can't remember if the 3121 movie was shown at the Purple Ticket party for that album or not.

Either way, I'm fairly certain that jseven (Dr Funkenberry) has seen both versions. Sam Jennings would have seen the 3121 version as he worked heavily on the campaign, probably not the Lotus version as he was no longer working for P at that point.

Panama City is one of my fave cities in the world. Casco Viejo section...beautiful energy, soul, great music. I can understand P's love for Panama. I would love to hear the music he made there...and Liza is gorgeous.

cool info! cool

but i also remember her picture being shown on one of his websites, or possibly by dr f,
in relation to the video for "$" that was being shot, a couple of years later, obviously,
and then the video was cancelled or filming was stopped because supposedly lisa had
leaked the track.

i distinctly remember the concensus on the org being that it was a publicity stunt or a
way to drum up interest in the track/video. but obviously the video never appeared
and that was the last time her name came up, relating to any of his projects.

the 3121 movie wasn't finished until mid 2006, it kept growing as Prince did more one off gigs that he wanted to include in the film. It was cut and finished editing in late 2006 by which point he'd moved on, about 30 percent was re-edited into the lotusflow3r film, but that was more music videos and performance stuff, the 3121 film was far cooler and had lots more scripted stuff, a bit like some of his 90's films. Which is cool, simply because its Prince in 2006 acting and being mysterious, something we barely saw apart from his appearence on New Girl.

as for Streets of Panama, it isn't circulating. It almost made it onto Planet Earth but was replaced last minute by Lion of judah. There was about 30 tracks intended for release on planet earth, the idea was to have a new website, payment subscription that you sign up to to get full access to all the tracks, art work, lyrics etc, but every cd release of the album would be entirely different and have a different tracklisting, meaning you had to go to as many of the o2 shows as possible to get all the songs, or trade cd's to get them all.

Most of the leftover stuff ended up on later albums, like Boom, Feel Good Feel Better, Morning After, Wall of Berlin etc. In fact the original 3121 sessions were so productive, he was still releasing stuff from those sessions by the time 20ten came out, and Groovy Potential was even started in 2005. I suppose it was his manic recording period of that decade, like 85-6 and 94-5 was.

I agree, the 2005-6 period was very creative and definitely reminded me of the mid-90's era.

I really do hope we get to see the 3121 movie at some point. According to Sam Jennings it was originally planned to include the film on dvd with the album, hence why the disc says 'the music'.

Never heard this before. Honestly this reads like fanfiction to me. Can someone else confirm?
