Last recording by Prince?

Does anyone know what the last recording Prince ever made was or the last time he was in the studio?

He was literally living at Paisley Park - how could we possibly know that?

The last release Prince did was the live version of "Black Sweat" from the Atlanta Piano and Mic tour (10 pm show, April 14th). He also had Paisley Park attendees, just a few days before he died, listen to some of that show and planned on releasing it. How far he got into the mixing and editing, no one knows. But, other than that, there is no way to know what his last recorded song/instrumental would be, nor the last time he was in the studio.

I have been curious of the short video clips on his Instagram a.k.a, Princestagram page was a hint of stuff he was working on. I do not know the dates he posted those various clips or how to even tell when they were posted, but it seems he was in his studio and I gather possibly reallly late at night.

The last I heard about were songs that Prince, MonoNeon, and others were working on in the studio for a potential new album...

Thank you. And I just realized, I said the word. I actually said the word. eek I've skipped that word and wasn't thinking when I wrote the reply and actually wrote it.

I assumed he was in the studio recording the night he died.

I disagree to some of the comments above.

.

Prince had staff and engineers so they will know what had been recorded.

.

It's very likely Prince was recording digitally, so all files will have a time and date stamp.

.

So it is possible to know what Prince's last recording is.

.

However this need to be differentiated from what Prince was writing at the time. After all he could have been jamming to himself and writing but not recording. That we will never know unless someone has seen or heard him.

MrSquiggle

He was working on music so often, he may have been putting something else together right up till the hours before his death. My image is that he was up late working on something new as usual, and gave himself the Fentanyl to suppress the pain and keep working on it. He goes into the elevator to get something and peacefully falls asleep, never wakes up. But of course that's just my somewhat educated guess. We'll know for sure in many years time, when more info starts coming out and huge coffee-table books with big lists of his complete sessions get released.

Kirk Johnson is probably the one living person who can tell us exactly what Prince was working on in his final hours.
