Happy 32nd Anniversary of Purple Rain 💜

Just thought I should acknowledge the movie that made our man a Superstar. I may watch later if my heart can take it 💜

For some reason the "I Would Die 4 U" scene used to make me sooooo sad even before he passed. Maybe it's because I knew the movie was almost over idk. But when I went to see it on 4/23 that scene damn near made me hyperventilate so idk.

It's something else when you see it on the big screen! wink

U will have 2 XXXcuse me I am still kind in "trip mode" about Prince no loooonger being here. I do however have 2 aknowledge the 32nd Anniversary of MY ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIE. PURPLE RAIN , and the impact this movie had on me when I saw it at such a young age.

The Year was 1984 July and I was still in "Michael Jackson mode" Jheri curl, black Thriller Jacket glove, dollar loafers yes I put dollar bills in my loafers instead of pennies I know weird. I was a wanna be break dancer about 14 YRS young. who was on my MJ hard but loved 1999 and Little Red Corvette(Note I had no idea Little Red Corvette was not about a car lol found out much later what it meant) Prince U bad bruh.

Oh where was I oh yea I was starting to peep out Prince more but I was still team Michael and would argue anyone who said Prince was more talented but I never saw any of his videos really MJ was still riding off Thriller been on all the music awards MTV Grammies AMA People's Choice etc.

I was in Art Class when I saw an article in "JET" mag about "Rock Star Prince" is in a new film called Purple Rain , I was thinking it was gonna be a porno type flick lol I had heard Prince was a wild sex maniac just silly rumors of him dressing like a girl on some Boy George Culture Club type of sh..t . I finally saw 1999 and Little Red Corvette on "Friday Night Videos"and "New York Hot Tracks" 4 those who could not afford cable Lol. .

I remember I kept hearing about this movie by Prince and the video from it was called "When Doves Cry" the instant I heard that song I loved it 2 this day I still listen to WDC .

I was hooked just like that, I bought the 45 and played it all the time until the Soundtrack came out.

It was July 27, 1984 and Purple Rain was released I kept seeing the trailer 4 it and was begging my mom 2 take me 2 C it. I was begging "pre Keith Sweat begging". I was not old enough 2 C it so she got me and some friends in 2 C it we caught the City bus 2 the mall . It was so packed in the theater and I was on the edge of my seat from the intro as the movie went along I started seeing all these fine @ss women I saw Apollonia and that was it instant "Baby Mama" off top 4get Janet Jackson, Tootie and Blair from Facts of Life this was the woman I was gonna marry and when she took her clothes off and purified herself Ohhh my damn!! I had a VCR in my head with pause and rewind .

Morris E. Day and Jerome were on their game giving Prince a run 4 it baby, from him vacuuming his apt 2 checking the female in the dumpster and the Jerome slam dunk classic, he made the movie as well and the Time who I still love were on point as normal.

Most people think Purple rain is cheesy, just a cult 80s movie but it had alot in it . Drama a good story line, insecurities, trust in others, Comedy, Music, sexxxy ladeez 2 the left and right. It was a story of RISING UP FROM THE ASHES BEING DOWN ETC. . What more could u ask 4 from a movie 4, for the women it had Prince , The Time it was a movie with Blacks, whites , men and women in this world created by the Purple One and it made The Beckys and Jennifers start checking out the Bruthuz waaaay b4 the Kardashians were thought of .

I know I wrote 2 much but I cannot say enough about my All Time favorite movie . So if u got about 2 hrs to spare show a new generation a good movie better yet their loss I am goig to watch again 4 the over 100th time .

I only want 2 C u watching Purple Rain . Prince RIP Rest In Purple

It's a shame such a pop culture phenomenon never got a re-release and remastered / bonus track edition while Prince was alive. I realize he was part of the reason for the delay and holdup, but it would have been nice to see him recognized for the film and soundtrack.

I remember the 25th anniversary like it was yesterday. Only because sheer chance struck that day.

I was in Hollywood with one of my besties. We were about to grab dinner and maybe do some pub hopping, didn't really have specific plans that evening.

We were walking along Hollywood BLVD and a picture of Prince catches my eye. Of course I lurched to a stop to read what the sign was saying. It was talking about the 25th anniversary of Purple Rain. Right there at the Mann's Egyptian Theatre THAT NIGHT!?! I hijacked our plans for the night! We scored tickets right away and had time for dinner and bevvies since it wasn't happening until later that night. First time seeing it on the big screen! Really cool for that to have happened IN Hollywood!

"25th Anniversary of PURPLE RAIN, 1984, Warner Bros., 111 min. Dir. Albert Magnoli. Pop superstar Prince plays a thinly disguised version of himself: an individualistic Minneapolis rock star struggling to succeed against his competitors and his own emotional demons. Spectacular concert sequences featuring songs from the multiplatinum soundtrack album anchor this innovative musical.(This was from the the Mann's Egyptian Theatre special events page).

Lately, when I listen to the song "Purple Rain," I listen to it from the perspective of Prince speaking to his fans after his death .. the song takes on a whole new meaning and it's actually very comforting.

Show your heart to me.

Wow! Already? I can't believe it's year 32!! Makes me feel so old. I remember when Purple Rain came out. I was in my senior year in high school and me and my friend would sing Purple Rain in our voice class, which used to make our voice teacher mad, LOL. My friend (who was male) would try to replicate the Prince "oooh" scream. I remember watching the movie and I was just in awe of Prince's presence and pesona! He was like no other. I could go on and on, but don't want to bore y'all, LOL biggrin
