ya but you're thinking like a normal person, not someone who is as dumb as a box of rocks. i still say he's reacting like a shy guy, that's my stance when women come up on me, I turn to the side and draw my shoulders in and don't look directly at them.

& you're thinking like YOU, not Prince! razz come on man lol

i understand that, but I also know that people aren't often as cool as they play it. many people have said Ali was shy, especially in his early days with women. Cheryl Tiegs said he seemed very shy when she met him. Ali probably had more women than Prince, it doesn't change your personality totally. i think ali got over a lot of his natural shyness but enough remained by the mid to late seventies for him to still give off that impression.

I totally get that, but this was fairly recently, and he was on stage where he's most comfortable, and this was a mere Kardashian whore. I don't think he was intimidated, I think he was just not trying to engage with her other than dancing. Sometimes we project too much, just sayin' smile
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

prince was a piece of work, they'd been saying for years that he was shy, early in his career. After he died, i watched an hour long interview with a guy who worked at PP and he said that (this was in the 90's) he was instructed never to talk to prince and that once when he and prince were crossing paths and it looked like they were right in a position where they'd have to acknowledge each other, Prince started looking from side to side and then burst out running. i really think part of that might have been an act. I just read Light's book on prince and Wendy said she 'got worked" by prince into speaking to the public at awards in his place, he told her he wasn't good with words. She now believes she "got worked'.

I never bought the shy thing cuz when he's being interviewed he has no problem, looking interviewers in the eyes, laughing with them, smiling, etc. i never believed it..look at the amazing looking, sexxy women he was with..that wouldn't have worked then, and also, i think he liked to appear mysterious and have an aura about him..to be dramatic..i think being ''different'' was his thing.

I...don't think Prince was shy around women and certainly not after wife#2 and muse number infinity.

I mean, if this is "shyness around the opposite sex", I wanted to be that shy. LMAO.

I just looooove the way he was laughing at her, i heard he laughed her off the stage..so funny look at his face lol lol lol lol lol lol cool

I saw her in an interview recenly and she said that she was so star struck that she couldn"t move and she was embarrassed because she felt she had wasted the opportunity to be onstage and dance with him, but that she treasured the memory of being onstage with him.

Yeah but that interview on American Bandstand, when he froze...that was painful to watch..that was not an act. He was a true Gemini. Plus he had to be careful what he said to the media and sometimes the media asked him either really dumb questions or stepped over the line..He also had to keep his cool, mysterious reputation going..It must of sucked being Prince sometimes.

..Hello, who is it?
Yes, this is a prettyman, Princey!

Ok, here's my theory P's shyness.

I think when he was either alone with his band or his posse, he wasn't shy. He could be himself.

When he performed, he wasn't shy. He was in his element and comfortable, even in a stadium in front of a huge audience.

When he was not performing, but in front of an audience or a crowd, he felt vulnerable. There's a clip of him fleeing at some award thing and he looks terrified even though as he passes audience members were reaching out and touching him in a congratulatoy/encouraging way, but he doesn't seem to be able to acknowledge that. Big Chick, his bodyguard, was following P, but could barely keep up with him.

I think early on, he felt misunderstood and made fun of by the media and the public, in later years, when people had started to refer to P in terms of him being "magical" and "legendary" and people rvered him.

In the beginning, I think his shyness made it very hard to do interviews, but as he felt more comfortable on a personal level with the interviewers/celebrities and eventually developed personal relationships with them off camera, it made him able to relax and have a bit of fun like when he showed up on The View to surprise them and another time when he sat on the couch with them and Barbara Walters spoke directly to him. He didn't act as though he felt threatened.

I also think the more his confidence as a celebrity grew and he realized that other celebrities not only liked him but were fans and in awe, he sometimes pretended to be shyer than he was by then simply as a way out of unwanted situations cuz if he didn't feel like being bothered folks would default to, "Oh, you know Prince is mysterious and shy!"

who knows, dude was so mysterious. in the book Poplife, dez dickerson said that prince had told everyone not to talk when dick comes over to them. pepe willie says prince told him he froze. also, prince seemed to be trying to act gay in that video, he was just in the embryonic stages of his gender play. he almost looks like he's flirting with Clark.

Yep. AMAs 1990. The video is on YouTube. Anita Baker presented him with the AMA Award of Achievement for his work from 1980-1990. This guy was getting achievement awards at 32 and looked 21 while doing so. Talk about a legend.

he seemed more natural to me the longer he was in the business. even in those recent commercials and stuff, he seemed so self-conscious in purple rain. the other actors were godawful too, but what could we expect, they weren't actors.

arsenio said the first time he was on his show, he'd run when arsenio tried to walk over and make convo. then, he said he was the total opposite in 2014. why that is? who knows. maybe act, maybe reality, maybe somewhere in between.

I've read numerous accounts over the years from friends, neighbors, staff, employees, band members who have said he was incredibly shy - a high school music teacher and assorted classmates, a former neighbor, two different chefs that worked for him in the past, a former manager, former body guard, the list goes on and on. Perhaps shy isn't the right word? Maybe he was socially awkward which got better over time, or which came and went depending on how he felt about himself at a particular time idk. But he was obviously uncomfortable with people (strangers?) at times.

someone on here, don't think it was you, correct me if i'm wrong, said that a chef of his in vegas said he was a normal dude when they were alone but when someone was there, he'd act eccentric and talk to him in his ear. Prince was a calculating guy, I could see him playing a lot of games for his image.
