I'm just gonna through this out there....When you heard the news of this memorial/tribute: was anyone else here a little irked/surprised that we have to buy tickets for a memorial?

.

If that was the plan all along then why wasn't this planned long ago? (As this will be a profitable event, and the family or whomever is putting it on will be making piles of $$$) If the initial expenses were a problem, I'm sure the stadium, performers, etc. would have accepted payment on the back end if needed.

.

I'm from MN. and have been waiting....As my avatar suggests; I'm a bigtime fan, and have spent thousands on his music, concerts, etc., but something about this whole thing seems tacky and just pisses me off a bit. Am I alone?

.

P.S. If the family is reading this, I take this post back if the profits are to go to P's charities, and the ticket prices aren't so expensive that it limits the ability of his true fams to attend.

Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

Let's hope the talent is A-List - Prince helped a lot of people and they need to give back in his memory. For that stadium, I am sure LiveNation or another group is organizing the event. Regular people wouldn't be able to. Will this be a non-profit event, or will the after-expenses money go to charity? I once watched Jon Bon Jovi and his backing band, the Kings of Suburbia, online in a benefit concert for a local (NJ) medical service center. I paid/donated $50 and watched the whole show. I would do that for this tribute.

We are all so grateful for the tribute/celebration on October 13th. Can we do an informal memorial for fans at Paisley before the concert? I am happy to help plan but we probably need some local people to plan. It would be healing for all of us to have an opportunity to eulogize the man we love so dearly before our celebration that evening. I am not thinking anything complicated. Maybe some balloons, some eulogies, some prayer, maybe we leave a tribute from all of us at Paisley, whatever. Is anyone down?

Sounds good to me. If I can get a ticket, I'll be at the memorial concert. It would be nice to meet up with some of the org members anyway. We need each other! neutral

I dont' mind paying for it myself, since it will cost a lot to put on and hopefully it is eveyone or many of the people that were with him through the years. But the $$ going to a Prince Charity would be an amazing way to honor him. I hope they do that! And yes, I hope ticket prices are reasonable. AND I hope they do a few shows that weekend, because one show will not be enough for all his fans, so that's not really a true memorial if they don't allow us all to join. Fingers crossed.

Great. The only thing really to do is to set a time to meet at Paisley before the concert.

Getting slightly emotional on this, because the memorial concert is on my birthday. My wife said I need to go since it is on this day. That would mean my first flight from The Netherlands. I don't know, it sounds tempting.

Prince's lawyer/former lawyer tweeted this:

I haven't seen much from any band members except Shelby J who posted the announcement on Facebook with this comment: "Looking forward to celebrating My Brother in Minne with The Family!"

I do find it odd though that US Bank Stadium wouldn't confirm the date, only that they were in discussions with Prince's estate. I can't imagine the family making that announcement if the date wasn't finalized. confused

I feel like it's pretty confirmed with Londell announcing it that way. I don't think he would announce a 'tentative' date so boldly. biggrin

It does cost a lot to put on something of this scale (A full size arena vs something like First Avenue...). I hope some of the funds do go to a charity but if NOT all, then at least toward something that's in the works to perserve Paisley Park for a music museum for a set amount of years or something.

Yes! That was my first thought too - charging to attend a memorial? Maybe I'm still annoyed that it's been MONTHS without any real plan. There were so many lovely tributes all over the world, individual and communtiy (all the purple lights, Spike Lee's parties, local dance parties, the BET tribute, etc) that I decided to be content with that. Ever since April 21st I've tried to keep something I heard James Corden say on his show that night in mind and be grateful and celebrate what was rather than grieve. It still resonates as the best comments I've heard:

..."What a thing to have been alive while Prince was making music. We are all incredibly lucky.” - James Corden https://www.youtube.com/w...T7k_1HGKQU

I don't think any of us have the right to complain. As I've said from the beginning I want a proper official tribute not something hastily pulled together. We saw with the Billboard tribute what happens when no thought is put into something. I'm hoping the fact it's at US Bank Stadium means it will be a proper tribute that people can feel they got their money's worth out of. I'm really hoping the large venue means they were able to score some A-list artists like Lenny Kravitz or Alicia Keys. I'd love to see Lenny rocking out to When You Were Mine. cool

We don't know all the things the family has been dealing with. We don't know who's all performing and all the logistics around getting people to accept and working around their schedules, securing the venue, possible TV or online streaming rights etc. I'm just glad it was announced well in advance so those travelling, especially from out of state, are able to make travel accommodations. It's easy for someone like me who's only 30 minutes from US Bank Stadium. Most people aren't that lucky.

A-list talent is OK to have and those are cool people, but definitely NOT if it drives up the price of tickets. The people I really care about being on the bill for this tribute are:

1. The musicians and singers who played with Prince and can play and sing his music the way it sounded when they were playing and singing it with him

2. Other artists he produced and wrote music for

~

I am definitely still hoping for some kind of memorial.

Happy to have my travel booked... hope there will be other events that weekend too! Would love to go to something every day on the weekend following the 13th.

Agreed. I would want people he performed with, recorded with or wrote songs for. But with a venue that large I think they need to go beyond Revolution, NPG and 3rdEye band members.

nod I agree with both of these comments. I actually looked at First Avenue to see what was shaking. They already have events booked that don't seem in any way related (at least to me).

I wonder if perhaps something at Paisley Park <After Dark>?! That would be something special!

Also, I put a posting on the fan gathering page for this, but if we have enough Purple Army in town, it would be kind of neat if a local single plex movie theatre (there are a few licensed ones in the area) would be interested in screening a movie or two on the 12th or the 14th if nothing else is shaking. So a huge gathering of the Purple Fam can get together. Would be something special too. I totally don't mind even doing the canvassing but need to know who is interested so we know what kind of numbers we're looking at. AKA if you're reading this and ARE interested, let me know in that thread in the fan gathering forum smile

Very happy to see that Mint Condition has it listed that they will be part of it. When their first 3 albums came out, it was like they were the new generation of the Minneapolis Sound, carrying on the legacy of bands like The Time....(until Morris, Monte & Jellybean came out of retirement to carry on their own legacy).

Now we need Leeds-Peterson music to get back to Mpls in time for this event. Having Eric Leeds playing (as much as possible smile ) will take this tribute to a whole nother level. LP Music and/or The Family should play at least one show in Mpls on Friday, Saturday or Sunday!

No Shiela? That's a big disappointment! sad and yes would rather see the people and bands that played and toured with Prince instead of bigger A list acts. I love me some Lenny but I would rather see the time, Sheila, Rosie, the revolution, npg, etc. his bands, not just people that might have done one cover. My opinion.
