Minneapolis Prince Memorial-Trubute in US BANK STADIUM: still no news ??

May 13th Tyka Nelson on Facebook wrote they were working on a tribut-memorial in Minneapolis in August. Since that announcement we haven't heard anything anymore. It's July 14th and still no news.

Does anyone know what's going on? Is it postponed? Cancelled? Or will they announce anything soon?

Any info is welcome smile

Yes. It is separate. First Avenue can hold 1500 people.
The stadium can hold 50.000 people minimum.

.

It could be a licensing/estate issue.

OR, they're going to do it pop-up style like P did his concerts.

.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I'd say it could very well be a money issue. Who's going to pay for everything? We heard early on that George Lopez lent $20k to the family for their expenses. Unless they find someone who will front all the costs, how could they possibly do it themselves? No one even knows for sure if the sibs will get anything at all if Prince had a child.

Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end nod

Minnesota is hosting the Ryder Cup (golf) which is at the end of September. I'm not sure they'd want to compete with that. Sheila E was asked about it after the BET awards and it sounded like something was still being planned but there were a lot of estate issues being worked through right now. If something is being planned I hope they take the time to do it right and not something rushed with a bunch of b-list artists. I want a Freddy Mercury style tribute. biggrin

Personally, i am over a tribute concert. I had plans to travel from detroit but am no longer interested. The lack of information about his death is equivalent to a slap in the face of the fans, those who supported Prince his whole life, those who cried many real tears, those who will forever have a hole in our hearts. Yep, im bitter, im hurt and i will not attend.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

None of us have any idea what the family is going through right now. And to be fair nothing official was ever announced. It was all very vague. I would rather something be done right than done hastily. I want a proper tribute not something similar to BET that has mostly b-list artists. But pulling something like that together I'm sure is a logistics nightmare. I doubt the family is intentionally dissing fans but there's probably more important things they're dealing with right now.

i also would prefer a well-planned event, whatever month or year it is. I just hope they can give a month or more advance notice. Honestly it's the main thing i look on the internet for, and it'd be nice to know i can take a break from looking for a few months cool

i would be expecting to pay as if for a concert to attend something like that, to cover the venue costs, etc, or is that weird for a memorial?

The estate is caged in probate.
It's that simple and that complicated.

Yes but if there is a concert a big part of the seats won't be used, because the stage is build there, I think.

There's no seats on the field, which is where the stage would be. There'd likely be standing room on the floor.

This is all assuming the event would require a stage at all and not for some reason be the size of the fooball field. shrug

If that's how you feel as a fan imagine how his actual family and friends must feel? It sucks for all but our loss is minor compared to those that were really close to him who also have all the other legal and investigatory stuff going on, all under the gaze of the media. It sucks for all but we need to keep perspective.

He was not close with his family. And he had few friends, many acquaintances.
Meanwhile, ive listened to every song, every note he wrote for almost 40 years.
Dont tell me that they hurt worse than i do.

I don't understand how any fan can claim they hurt more than family/friends or band members who essentially were like family. Nonsense. The family isn't intentionally pissing all over fans. I'm sure there's A LOT going on right now and a tribute concert with A-list celebrities no doubt isn't the easiest thing to pull off. I think it's only fair to cut the family some slack.

The loss of our dear Prince is defiantly hard on his family and close friends. Prince did call his fans his family, we are his musical family and our bonds to him run deep. The whole entire world is grieving the loss of Prince. I for one cannot wait till they announce a memorial service to be held in MinniP.

+++

I wish I could make a pilgrimage out there for the event. If this event goes down I know some orgers here will attend and I cannot wait to hear the stories and see the photos. I am too getting antsy on this news. Maybe yes the death investigation and issues with sorting out his estate are derailing the memorial plans. Or maybe they are in the works we just are not privy to the info.

Sigh... question

I would be shocked if this memorial-tribute happens in August. It seems a few of the singers/bands that Prince worked with in the past are organizing their own (i.e. The Revolution featuring Dez and Andre Cymone, Sheila E is doing some shows with Morris Day and The Time and I'm sure there will be more). I think that's enough. I'm over it. We didn't get a problem memorial to mourn this man as fans which really sucks but we will always have the music.

Have U had your + today?

REV IS 100% CORRECT.Many want to attend and need to make flight plans. If its estate issues in the way speak up ffs.Just like they said it would be in august. If they aren't sure now open the hell up and say SOMETHING.Many have expressed that it could be the difference of 350-450 to 700-800 bucks last minute.Maybe some of you live in minn but,the rest of us need airport info and hotel info and transportation info.We dont want to miss out because they announce it a few days before sad
