He wasn't a junkie. Junkies take drugs for the pleasure of getting "high".

He was a patient whose body became used to a prescribed drug.

There's a difference.

Either way, it leads to addiction and it rewires your neural pathway so that you need the drug in order to function. I never used heavy drugs, but as a psychology major, there are people who use street drugs to escape reality because they may be suffering from a mental illness (depression, bipolar disorder). But I don't think Prince was suffering from an addiction, I simply think he was trying to wean off of it.
[Edited 7/14/16 14:27pm]

Besides all that, many people who use drugs are in another kind of pain, b it psychological or emotional, stemming from childhood abuse and/or traumas or whatever... this doesnt necessarily make them mentally ill...the drugs make u numb to that pain and helps u forget...

Yeah I know we aren't "owed" the full autopsy report but it would make me and several more fans much more content if we got to see it. People really cared for this guy and want to know the background of his death... I'm not hopeful or anything though. I've already resigned myself to the fact that his death will remain a ? for fans. I mean we have the basic info (that he overdosed on fentanyl he was taking for hip pain), but the story just doesn't seem complete to me.

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2

Well, just browsing this thread, I feel like if anything his death should cause people to re-evaluate their perception of "addiction" and whatever pre-judgements come with that designation.

It seems like people are still trying to rationalize and spin. "He was anti-drug so he couldn't have died that way." "Okay, drugs were found, but I'm sure he wasn't doing them for fun, just because he needed them."

Well, what if it was a combination of the two, as are most addictions? You start self-medicating, then it just manifests... you get addicted to the relief. I think if you have a problem with this possibility, or immediately retreat to bashing the "junkie" over the "patient" when really they're all in the same boat regardless of how their use started, that speaks more of you than it does of Prince.

Thank you, this can't be said enough. People that use "junkie" and other pejoratives are still contributing to the stigma that likely prevented Prince from seeking help sooner.

I agree with you CharismaDove. Those that did known him even if they did know anything that would put him in a negative light would most likely not do so out of a sense of loyalty to Prince but also a sense of not wanting fans to see him in that kind of light. I think the ones in the past who worked with him or knew him and told of their negative encounters are probably telling truths. I also think that those who knew him and tell of their postive encounters with him are probaby telling truths as well. My personal belief is there was only one perfect sinless man that ever walke this earth and he died and rose again over 2000 yrs ago. Anyone before or after him is going to show both sides of their coins the rest of their lives.

Ok, I don't understand any of the whiney bitch fest some ppl spew when it comes 2 this subject. Where does it state that just becuz some1 is in the public eye they have to reveal, every. Single. Aspect. Of their lives? P once said he intentionally hoodwinked reporters, made up stories and such 2 protect himself, becuz what would happen or be left of him if every1 took of him or left him? I 1 million % understand and agree with this. Put aside Ur own feelings and look at it thru HIS eyes.

Unless U were living under a rock the whole world knows his name, his B-day, where he lives, knows about his family, so on and so on, then, his every movment is followed and scrutinized. His work is picked apart, ppl wanna know what song was written 4 who, what it all means. U live in a damn fish bowl. Why can't ppl just appreciate what he gave us and interpret lyrics/songs 4 meaning in Ur own life? It's like what if The Beautiful Ones was Ur fav song, and U rely on that 2 get U thru hard times thinking it was some profound spiritually driven song but then U found out it's about a dog. A destructive dog that knocks over mirrors and U can't leave it alone, and dislikes the person U're seeing, so Ur personal life suffers. U have 2 pick me or the dog? Insane analogy I know, but it should make my point.

He also said he didn't choose this path and he didn't want 2 be worshiped. While it's obvious he loved it when ppl enjoyed his work (and a HUGE reason he did what he did, he loved making ppl happy) he was sooo backwards/awkward when it came 2 accepting any award or accolades, he just wanted 2 play. If he was some Kardashian attention whore inviting cameras into his home, to follow him around everywhere then get pissed when ppl follow him around everywhere wanting/demanding 2 know everything about him, then I could understand the complaint. But he was the polar opposite of this.

In regards 2 ppl being disillusioned somehow with his "drug use" STFU already. The term "drug use" keeps having a wider cast net these days. Do U take Tylenol 4 a headache? Or how about Pepto 4 an upset stomach? Guess what, those are drugs, therefore U R a drug user! The problem is when the media compares LEGAL RX's 2 ILLEGAL street drugs. Everything can be compared to heroin. The fact that ppl keep saying their image of him is tainted or what-not becuz of finding out he took pain medication, just....really? I mean REALLY? So forget the fact that he was in tremendous pain and was trying 2 cope by taking legal medications, nah, he should have suffered and not taken anything to maintain some1 else's puritan image of him. Oh, and let's not forget he should've disclosed all his health issues 2 the public 1st 2 get their approval.

2 the OP -I'm not being rude or anything here but 4 someone who says they don't care about P's personal life it certainly sounds like U've thought a lot about it and it obviously effects U. Just enjoy the music, if any 1 can't do that becuz they somehow now "see" him in a different light, well then U read waaaaay 2 much into his personal life and let that rule U not the music. I'll get off my soap box now.

All of this right here. It's crazy. Sometimes I wonder if people simply don't think about how the constant digging into a celeb's life can be dehumanizing to the celeb: they're no longer a person, they're just an object to be possessed, a marionette doll to be pushed, pulled, and tugged for another's amusement with no life and will of their own, no privacy or corner of the world where they can just breathe.

It's really sad.

I think he was a faker and a very evil man. I don't know it, but I think so. I base this on what vanity said about him being in the occult and supernatural stuff happening around him. I think that he was putting on all the way around. I also think he did evil things to people. Yup. Do I know, nope...but these record companies don't just sell music they sell people, images, in ways you people know not of, maybe some of you do but....they are selling people, not just product, and that's why people want to know about these people. I haven't liked what I have found out about Prince, in fact, I'm deeply upset about it, for a number of reasons, including who his associates were. Can't help but wonder what kind of fakery was going on amongst them all. And what the consequences of all that fakery were, and who were the targets...

Well, I can understand your right to feel deceived on some level, but consider this...IF, big IF...way back when, Vanity said whatever, and keeping in mind her own struggles which led her to rehab and reform that led to an apparent awakening and awareness that included religion...Could you consider that it's possible that whatever P might have been involved in or thinking about or believing in nearly 20-25 years ago might have changed?

That there might have been a window of opportunity during all those years where he might have moved in a different direction in his thoughts and actions and feelings?

That part of his struggle to be free from WB might have come from seeing and or being involved in things that ultimately he decided were wrong for him and the journey he wanted to be on?

I can't speak for anyone else, but over the past 20-25 years I've certainly changed in behavior, likes, dislikes.

Can you at least see a bit of a possibility that it's possible that whatever "sins" P might be guilty of during 57 years, that he was trying to evolved into a better, imperfect, but better human being?

I don't feel comfortable throwing stones at anyone in general and P in particular because I know that my life journey has been far from pristine.

Of course, everyone's mileage may vary.
[Edited 7/14/16 16:35pm]

I'm glad all of my crazy life cycles are not on public view. One thing I respect about Prince is that he questioned things. The people I have problems with are those that never question anything and stay the same forever.

Yep. Celebs pay a heavy price 2 do what they love. I mean there are some who enjoy and want all the attention in the world, heck even get mad or depressed when they aren't being followed/hounded. But P was never in a million years 1 of them. I really admire him 4 that.

Guuuuurl...Here in NY tonight it's humid.

It's more humid than 5 Aretha Franklin sized gals in the back seat of a Volkswagen wearing full length fur coats, manual windows rolled up, no air conditioning, and fryin chicken.

Agree with "Charmed" and couldnt agree with you more. No one except the investigators and the autospy report will ever convince me that he was a recreational drug user and using for the high. I think these essential reports are known as the FACTS. (Excuse the sarcasm.) Even if the reports are brought to the light of day, they don't bring him back. I admit I'd like to know some "stuff" as well; the antidote for that for ME has been to get back into my daily routine, focus on the work in front of me, go to the gym, and not check every day for updates, etc. The more time that goes by the less it seems to matter to me what the circumstances may be. Also, there are other symptoms of withdrawl that he didnt' seem to exhibit or no one has mentioned such as itching and a runny nose. He was still touring, making music, mentoring, etc and for the younger crowd, getting older is not for sissies. The man was entitled to peace, privacy and winding down his career if that's what he was choosing. Seems we live in an age of instant gratification and entitlement. May it pass....

This here, too. I always figured that at some point, Prince was going to stop performing, and instead become a producer -- I think he had the ability to do it, and obviously he didn't build Paisley Park with only one thing in mind. He didn't strike me as someone who would pass up the opportunity to pass on what he knew. He seemed too interested in teaching and mentoring not to do that.

I also do admire his ability to protect himself. Maybe he occasionally carried that self-protection too far, but there's something to be said for a celeb who values himself enough to not allow everyone into his life. It made a lot of sense to keep people at a distance, especially in a world where people will take advantage of you in some horrible ways.

I don't believe he was a recreational user either. But I have some idea how this stuff works and it saddens me. And though the urgency has waned and acceptance is setting in I will always want to know how everything got here, whether it fully comes out or not. I'll never forget about it.
