Billy Jack Bitch

I have never heard of a Billy Jack Bitch, so I assume that it is about a particular person. Does anybody know who or what the Billy Jack part of Billy Jack Bitch refers to?

REALLY?!?!?!?!?!?!

First, use the Search box, top right. This has obviously been discussed to the point of vomiting.

Second, a site you might not know about, PrinceVault, holds your answer, too.

Third, simply typing "who is 'Billy Jack Bitch' about" brings up an answer.

Lastly, listen harder. It's in the lyrics:

Whenever evil wants to groove
Come, let me fly you to the moon
Then you can see how love will bloom
Joy, it's in the dictionary, C.J.,

Billy Jack Bitch

I get the CJ conncection but I always wondered about the "Billy Jack" part myself. I'm assuming it's just a "silly name" he used because he liked the sound - harsh and alliterative. Like singing a song about A Dorothy Parker, not THE Dorothy Parker

Billy Jack is the name of a character played by Tom Loughlin in a series of movies; an ass-kicking "Indian."

Yeah, I saw all those movies. I wondered if there was some connection between the movies or the character in the movies, or maybe someone had coined a new insult based on the movies. The movie "Billy Jack" showed in the movie theatres all across America in 1973, and was followed by two sequels. But according to the article that I just read, the song "Billy Jack Bitch" is about some gossip columnist named CJ.

Billy Jack Bitch (Billy Jack, Billy Jack)
(Bitch) {Fishbone's "Lyin' Ass Bitch" sample repeats throughout song}
What if I called U silly names
Just like the ones that U call me?
What if I filled your eyes with tears
So many that U cannot see?

CHORUS:
Billy Jack Bitch - Do U ever really cry? (Billy Jack Bitch)
Billy Jack Bitch - Do U ever really try? (Billy Jack Bitch)
Billy Jack Bitch - Do U ever wonder why? (Billy Jack Bitch)
Billy Jack Bitch (Billy Jack Bitch)

(Billy Jack Bitch)

What if I told U that U're worth
Only half of what U be?
Would U come forth and tell no lies?
Would U come forth and talk 2 me?

CHORUS

(Billy Jack Bitch)

What distortion could U let your pen forget 2day?
What misfortune left your heart so broken U only say
Words intended 2 belittle or dismay?
What if I say U lie?
Billy Jack Bitch (Well)

Open letters aren't the only things that open wounds
Long hard shiny rocket ships can fly U 2 the moon

Whenever evil wants 2 groove
Come let me fly U 2 the moon
Then U can see how love will bloom
Joy - it's in the dictionary
See "J" Billy Jack Bitch

Do U ever really cry? (Do U ever really cry Billy Jack Bitch?)
Do U ever really try? (Do U ever really try Billy Jack Bitch?)
Do U ever wonder why? (Do U ever wonder why Billy Jack Bitch?)
Oh, Billy Jack Bitch (Billy Jack Bitch)
Billy, Billy, oh yeah yeah yeah!

.

ETC.

Yep, it's all right there in the lyrics. So obvious. So clear. How did I miss it? biggrin

^^^ We can play that semantic game all day, but "See J" it supposed to sound exactly like "C. J.", soI don't care how it's spelled out. Aurally, we know.

Symbolina? Funny, but I can definitely see why he wouldn't like that nickname. I've heard people use Gender Trumpet as a nickname for those years. I don't think he would have liked that one either.

I love the song, and that "see J" is quite purposeful. When Prince really wanted to, he could write a diss-type song like no other. "eye Hate U", "Hello", "eye Love U But eye Don't Trust U Anymore", etc.

Don't forget F.U.N.K.

And if you want an entire diss album, 3121 comes close.

I've understood that "Billy Jack" has basically the same meaning as the "n" word in some parts of North America.

Curtis Mayfield has a great, funky song titled "Billy Jack", so I've assumed that's where Prince got the term.

There's No Place Like America Today.

I think it might be actually the most "Prince-like" song Curtis Mayfield ever did.

I am American, and I have never heard "Billy Jack" as a term that has the same meaning as the "n" word. In fact I have never heard "Billy Jack" at all except for as the title to the movie "Billy Jack", and in the song "Billy Jack Bitch". In what parts of North America does Billy Jack mean the "n" word? Does it mean that in Canada? Also, would Prince, being partly black himself, use a term that meant the "n" word to insult a black woman? He had black pride. Why would he insult someone about being black?

Oh My God! I just looked up Billy Jack in the urban dictionary and guess what!

.

.
A derogatory term used by Canadian whites to diparage persons of African descent. (Black people)
.
Being from Minnesota, Prince might well have known this term.

Yep. I'm European, so I can't pretend that I'd be as familiar with these terms as you guys.

It was always just clear to me that the way Curtis Mayfield uses it in his song "Billy Jack" that it's a derogatory term for black people. Maybe it's disappeared from slang over time. I'm pretty sure Prince was familiar with the Curtis Mayfield song in any case.

As for why would Prince use it, well, it was the mid-90s. Him and many other "raunchy" performers were using these type of words all the time without them having to make much sense in their context. Just think of the Exodus album segues.
