See 'J', it's in the dictionary...

Is 'Billy Jack Bitch' the greatest diss-song ever? It's Prince, it's James Brown (horns), it's... Forgive me.. Eminem.

Standalone, 10/10. In context, pure genius.

Seriously though, music and lyrics are killer. Probably in my top five Prince songs.

My question though, is do you consider this a legit diss song, or the best?

It´s a good diss song but I dislike CJ so much that I feel she shouldn´t even have been honored with a diss song. Even if it´s a song dissing her, it is still some sort of acknowledgement, and I don´t think she deserves any acknowledgement.

Lol, I thought the same thing. I was like ,"damn, this is a hit but used just to combat a so-called journalist?". But it speaks to his genius. I bet he recorded the whole thing in three hours with his band.

Exactly. Guns n Roses did the same thing with their song 'Get in the Ring', forever immortalizing their enemies.

I wonder if CJ knows that Lenny Kravitz does the backing vocals on it.

She should be proud, but really, I think the it's Prince showing off. He obviously could have been dissing anyone. Jam session gone right. He probably could have done it ten times over.

Hometown boy makes it spectacularly big, and the little lady at the local paper cannot give him his due. And she gets to be immortalized forever by the genius himself!

You're right, this song is pure genius. The lyrics, the layers of hidden meaning. A testament to his enduring brilliance.

How weird...been my song of today!

-

Totally agree... that mooo will be loving the fact that she now feels so important - that even the mighty Prince wrote a song about her

-

Top tune though...just wish he didn't mention her specifically (ala old friends4sale)

Co-signing on this. But Prince had diss songs for others too ("Dream Factory", for one). The thing is, he still liked Paul, and anyone else. He and CJ were truly frenemies. He also shut out Jon Bream, but Jon only spoke the truth, and Prince never wanted to hear that from folks sometimes, when it wasn't kissing his booty. I'm not sure why CJ ever laid into him the way she did. It was very stereotypical bruised woman of her. No strong woman stoops to such idiotic levels as "symbolina". I mean - at least Jon Bream manned up and just had debates abou Prince's music. CJ was nasty, and her vitriol was always on display. I didn't buy her bullshit she wrote after he died either. I think her only regret is that she has no one to go back n' forth with anymore.

I wonder - was it CJ he was referring to in "The Flow", or someone else?

Is it really important where I take my naps? No
Or who I sleep with?
People with a real mind will peep this out, yo out

Then there goes your clout
Another fool don't know what she's talkin' about
Like the woman who tried to approach and
Attempt to roast and even boast about, what
How she know me what is said, damn, here we go again

You never went to school as far as I know
And now you're tryin' to say that you're writing a bio about me?
Girl, I hate to say this, nigga please, I go places that you never go

That's what I'm hearing. Guitar solos. Organ solos. Layered background vocals throughout... Real drums, a horn section. What Prince says at the end was probably legitimate..,

I can't call it the greatest diss-song ever, but I definitely love "Billy Jack Bitch." For me, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this song. And, the fact that I got to dance to it while DJ Brother Jules played it at Paisley Park one night is the cherry on top.

Why can't I think of any other diss songs? I'm drawing a blank so that must mean that I do indeed think it's the best one lol. I do love this song, I played it just today in fact

Dream Factory is a diss song.
I think "I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore" is a diss to Mayte.

"Hello" isn't a diss, but certainly an answer to "We Are The World" recording.

"I Hate U" is allegedly about Carmen Electra. Think about that - BJB and I Hate U back to back.

"Pfunk" was about Prince Fans United.

I only wish he had included the full 7 minute version on TGE. He pulled that at the last minute. The horns and guitar freak out is just amazing!
