APOCALYPSE NOW is generally considered a classic and often appears high up on the lists when people are allowed to vote on "the greatest films of all time".
.
Strange comparison, in any case.

.

1. Yeah, maybe now it is embraced as a classic. But when the film was actually in the theaters and viewed by paying customers, it was across the board considered a very flawed picture.

.

2. Strange comparison? Uhh, you can't see that both APOCALYPSE NOW and RAINBOW CHILDREN are far out epics, created by an artist of genius caliber, and both works really do not fit into what the general public releases of that time were? (Commercial friendly SUPERMAN was the big epic at the time of APOCALYPSE and Beyonce r n b/pop dance music was the order of the day when Prince released his religious jazz album.) APOCALYPSE and RAINBOW are both sprawling bold statements by top artists. No one takes chances like that anymore in film or music. To compare the two is correct.

To compare the two may be fine. Both are great pieces of art. But no. it has generally since its release been considered Coppola's last masterpiece after the two first Godfathers and The Conversation. And yes, I agree, hardly anyone makes these personal, risktaking, imperfect movies today.

Most people I know find especially the part with Brando hauntingly brilliant and enigmatic.

What a pleasant surprise this album was after the travesty that was emancipation album and the mehhhhhness of that rave album.

This one stayed in the car for a couple of months. Couldn't take it out.

Well that's one opinion I'd take Enancipation over TRC any day....but diversity of opinion keeps the board interesting. Personally I can't relate to the lyrics and much of the music. I work with several JW's and can respect their dedication but underlying it all seems to be anti -Catholic anti -Jew anti -gay sentiments no matter what the topic...
I belong to none of those groups but JW can b pretty harsh much like Catholics in the Middle Ages and still I suppose...but there are lots of religions more open to embracing all people...and atheists/agnostics as well. I get upset at narrow mindedness anywhere and I have a sense Prince's spiritual beliefs evolved quite a bit in last 4 or 5 years

Incredible album. In my top 5, easily. It is a huge, challenging album. Lol. By the time I get to last December I'm exhausted.

Yes. Last December is certainly an epic closer. One. One. One. One. One. One. One.

Brilliant album. I bought up about 8 copies just so I would never be without it. Glad I did as I see they are now hard to get. This album is amazing.

How do you use 8 copies? One for car? Home? Computer?

I used to buy 2 of everything - one to "keep" and one to use.

In the age of digital, it's not really needed I guess. I rip my original, and then it's back in its case forever.

I do have a few copies of LotusFlow3r and Planet Earth though, stuff that I knew would go out of print very quickly.

I would imagine that the days of "new" Prince music going out of print are over though.

I take the lyrics as seriously as I take Star Wars or a Parliament record. It's the music and the "spirit" that lifts TRC.

I respect that u r able to do that. And Star Wars may have more profound words but it's cool... I respect what he made just that era will never be my cup of tea compared to before and after. People looking for this my sealed return ought to pop up on Amazon as soon as they get it back. Peace
