Holy sh*t she did Prince proud on this one! What an amazing, flawless, original rendition of this song.

Yep, that's what happens when you perform a song for (at least) 15 years. We have to wonder how many people around here don't know this...

Loved this, I have "Songs In A Minor," and absolutely love that song, but I thought it was an original song from her until I read the book and saw the songwriter was Prince. But she did such a great cover of this song. biggrin

Stephanie Mills actually covered the song in 1983 first, but I dig Alica's cover more

That was really great. Even better is the duet she did with Prince in 2011 at the Forum in LA. Nobody can play this on the piano like Prince could. cool

Very nice... Her rendition of Adore in tribute to Prince at the 2010 BET Awards was cool too

Hopefully she does something on the 26th along with Maxwell
Dance... Let me see you dance

Beautiful.
I cannot imagine how she can keep it together and not break down singing it. He had died the previous day. Amazing profissionalism, self control, the lot. All the emotion channelled into the voice.

Alicia supports the ethnic cleaning of the Palestinian people. She support a brutal, tyrannical, apartheid state called Israel. EVIL.

i can't bring myself to watch this... "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" is my #1 song of Prince's, and no one else can cover it properly.

.

Nope, I won't watch it...

No-one else could understand you, you're too complex. They say nothing's perfect, but they don't know you...

How does this even come close to have anything to do with the tribute that she sang? Take your crappy ass politics somewhere else douche bag
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Remember there is only one destination and that place is U
All of it. Everything. Is U.

Right on!

Alicia did a fantastic job. I never could understand the hate for her on this site. She has tons of talent.

P stopped many people from covering his songs, but he let this one slip by. Alicia appeared to have talent, but her touching this song has always rubbed me the wrong way. The production on the studio version was outdated the year it came out and her phrasing on this video is all kinds of wrong. All those papa's instead of mama is annoying as well. It's a quintessential Prince song, if you cover it, change it completely or don't even bother.

It always bothers me people changing the lyrics to fit the gender. There's just no need. We know the original, we get it, we get the feeling of it, don't change it cause it kinda disrupts the flow.

That was nicely done but makes me realise how much more I really prefer the original one.

Her story about Prince having to give his permission for use of his songs. Err..how did Tom Jones get away with that terrible version of Kiss? Thankfully I think it has been erased from most people's memories.

I feel the same way. There is a sense of desperation and insecurity in Prince's version that is not present in her version.
