Mountains. I can still remember the first time I heard this song on the radio like it was yesterday! Listen to it all the time and love the extended mix of it.

Have U had your + today?

...and forcing you to pick ONE and only ONE Prince song as your favorite. No namby-pamby, I-can't-make-up-my-mind lists, but ONE song. What would it be? Mine is "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore". As a piano player, I love just him and the simple instrument. The bridge build-up gives me chills!

Sign 'o' The Times. Not just because it is awesome, but because of what a radical departure it was to hear it for me from his previous songs. It is rhythmically one of the most spacious songs I ever remember him putting out. The lyric is, of course, socially conscious. But the Rhythm and the guitar parts in that song Perfectly complement its sentiment.

I remember when I heard the opening chords of this live for the first time in concert and I leaped out of my seat and yelled, "Mountains!" People looked at me like I was crazy. lol But I never thought I'd get to hear Prince perform it live. cloud9

Sign O The Times - the beat, the bass, the guitar and the lyrics. The soundtrack to my mind.

So glad I'm not the only one that picked that one!

The beat/the bass - sparse. Not busy at all, yet still completely full and consuming.

And of course, the lyric - it's not convoluted yet not simple. You know exactly what he's saying here.

But for me - I think the guitar that comes in in the second verse is so perfectly, harmonically dissonant that it fully tells the story of the lyric itself. It carries the mood of the words throughout the entire song, like musical punctuation.

It's flatly captivating.

admission is easy, just say U believe, then come 2 this place in your heart.

"When Doves Cry" for sure. There are soooo many great songs, but this song to me is absolutely just definitively Prince. A perfect combination of beat and lyrics. AND that guitar lick at the very beginning -- it just grabs you!! Perfect.

Thieves in the Temple!! It's in my top 5 "most played" prince songs with Sign 'O' The Times (the one I picked), 7, Fury and 3121. I listen to much more than that of course - but those seem to get the most play.

Ok, I have thought long and hard about this and I have decided! For me it is Joy in Repetition - today anyway!

I love his vocals and the when you listen to it on headphones the guitar dances around your head. It's hypnotic and magical.

You would end up shooting me as even with a gun to my head I would not have a single favorite song. Among the thousands of studio tracks & live performances I've heard? Not possible. Bang! shoot3

When Doves Cry. It was my introduction to him, so it will always be #1 for that reason, though I've loved many of his other songs with just as much intensity...

Lol Namby-pamby is in my DNA. My favorite has to be Soft & Wet because that was my introduction to him. First Favorite.

I feel the same. I play this at least once a day in the car to and from work.

Would you let me wash your hair?
