June 7th 2016

Prince's birthday is 3 days away...

Is there is something we can do on the Org to celebrate this. We don't know where we will be this time 2017.

Everyone post a lyric from a song with the album info that speaks to life? or celebrating life?

post an image of something purple in nature to go with it or let is stand alone / lyric referencing purple...

post images of Prince in purple...

Post information from Prince history of something that happened on June 7th?

* * If U don't like it or have a problem with it, please just pass on posting, no one is forcing anyone 2 do anything * *

I don't have any ideas, but I like the thought of starting an annual tradition for his bday.. whatever that might be.

Change it one more time..

I have turned on the purple porch light for 7 nights 1-7 and releasing 7 purple balloons on the 7th.

To answer your question regarding your great ideas - I say "ALL OF THEM"

I feel weird about it though, Prince didnt celebrate them. So seems pointless to me, but I understand why others feel they wish too. I am more thinking what are we going to do for April 21, 2017? neutral

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

Why would we want to celebrate the day he died?

It's not the day he died, it's his birthday coming up in 3 days...

I'm gonna quote DMSR from 1999:

Now you can all take a bite of my purple rock, can we stop?

The idea is great and it might help people to get through this day. I know I won't be very cheerful on the 7th, so some positivity would be welcome smile

Nothing at all...I am going to try to try forget that date.

.

I will still celebrate Prince's bday though in my own way. Just playing his music a bit more and thanking the stars that he was around when I was.

We never celebrated his birthday when he was alive and it mattered so why now? I'm gonna pass.

To me, it will not only be a memorial to his 'born day' but also to the last time I saw him in concert (Vienna, 2014).
.
I know it's rather cheesy but I plan to be wearing purple on Tuesday. I won't make a big thing about it but I'm sure those who know me will realise why.

Besides his birthday June 7th is also the date he released his first single Soft & Wet in 1978.

And also the day he announced his new name (the symbol) in 1993.

We wouldnt celebrate the date anyone died - that is why I had a sad face after that comment, I just wondered how we are all going to cope one year on & if we are going to light a candle or something???????? I guess I should have clarified that statement or made it clearer.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

I am making some business cards. Starting on June 7th, I will be going out and doing random acts of kindness. I've always done things like this, paying for someone's meal behind me in a drive thru, paying for someone's groceries in front of me in the grocery store, buying food for homeless people, etc., but from now on, when I do something like that, I plan on handing out the business card to those people. On one side it will read, "Proud member of the #PurpleArmy" on the other side it will read, "Done in remembrance of Prince and his philanthropy. Love4oneanother. Pass it on, please."

Thank you. I really feel the need to do something to honor Prince, not just the music, but the man he was. (I hate saying "was" in relation to him.) I think this is something that he always wanted his fans to get involved in, the coat and food drives during his concerts, talking about how we need to show love4oneanother, about compassion "Everybody can win, With a little faith in man, Beginning of an end, Start up a brand new something" (lyrics from song "Compassion"). Mankind has lost faith in each other and the only way to bring that faith back to each other is through showing compassion and love for each other. During his last concert, Prince talked about the state of the world and said that it was up to us to change it. I know this won't change the world, one person doing this, but at least I will know I've done my part.

This is such a thoughtful idea - absolutely love this. We need more people like you in this world. I Lo ve all the ideas here. I'm not sure yet. I'll be thinking about it today as it will be here before you know it. It sounds like Prince is still here. He lives on in our hearts, our memories, our thoughts, our feelings and our remembrances of him.

Like you, this was my initial thought, plus the fact that he himself had stopped celebrating his own birthday... Then I thought again and realised that the idea of not celebrating birthdays was not precisely his but the denomination's to which he belonged...

Therefore I still think that as a human being and artist, he deserves some form of commemorative celebration in one way or another, whether he felt that he was entitled to it or not. So I now think this is a great idea and will try and think of something and post it on here to share with other fans.

Peace prince

He still is with us. I still feel him, in his music, in my life. He definitely did his part to try to change the world, through his music and through his philanthropic endeavors. That is the legacy he left us, the fans. In this relay race of life, we just have to take the baton he carried and continue the race in his honor.

Thanks OldFriends4Sale! You know, it would be a great idea to have some small quotes added to the cards, things Prince said or from lyrics. Some of his most inspiring statements.

Who is we?
Prine did celebrate his birthday for a long time.
This isn't about celebrating Birthdays but a way to remember (even if it is just this once) that this is the day Prince came into the world. celebrate or not June 7 is still his Birth Date. So those who wish to can and those who don't this isn't something everyone has to. C'est la vie

To me, it's not celebrating his birthday, it's celebrating his life. It is something that we can do every day of the year, but June 7th, 1958, God gave us Prince. There is something sacred in that. We may call those days "birthdays", when we celebrate the life of each other, the gift of that person to this world, but to me, for me, it has always been a celebration of that life, a celebration of that gift from God. That is how I explain birthdays to my children. Prince would often celebrate his life on June 7th through having parties and concerts on that date. He didn't celebrate his birth, as he only had one birth date, but he definitely celebrated his life.

Yes i think it's a great idea to do something, to celebrate his life. Were there particular charities he was involved with? I know he kept his contributions under wraps and private. Prince didn't want credit for anything he did in this regard.

Individually I just plan on going to work and wear a purple blouse and plan on painting my nails purple.

I think it's a great idea to do something for a man who has given us so much! smile flower heart beret

I like to think of it as not celebrating his birthday but thanking the universe that he was born! Giving thanks and gratitude to the powers? that be that brought him to us and into "this thing called life". Being grateful that we all got to experience this wonderful being Prince Rogers Nelson. I really like Benni's idea - can I borrow that idea? Peace and Love to you all. I know June 7th will be difficult for a lot of us.

In 2011, Prince donated $250,000 to Eau Claire Promise Zone, an organization working to help preschoolers and their families in struggling areas of Columbia, S.C., at the request of the town's mayor.

Prince quietly supported his friend Van Jones' Rebuild the Dream charity and its YesWeCodeinitiative, which has a mission of training 100,00 low-opportunity young adults for high-paying careers in technology.

Per ABC 7, he donated $1 million to the Harlem Children's Zone, a non-profit organization for poverty-stricken children and families living in Harlem.

Prince performed in a charity concert this past October which raised $1.5 million...ves Matter. "He believed in the Black Lives Matter kids so much—and he had a dream for them," his friend Jones told CNN. "He said, 'I hope that they become an economic force. I hope that they use their genius to start businesses.'"

He also donated $250,000 to the Uptown Dance Academy when he found out they were going to lose their space back in 2014. Thanks to the donation, the studios were able to remain open.

Here are a few that I found but I think that if you find ANY reputable charity whose mission is to better the lives of people and bring about love, peace and justice, Prince would approve.
