lynx	June & Sign O' The Times Apologies if this has been said before, and it probably has knowing the amount of Prince knowledge here... Does anyone notice the drug reference at the end of Sign O' The Times "now he's doing horse..it's June" and the ambiguity of the song June - "doesn't make sense but it will soon" Was Prince trying to tell us something??

The drug reference in SOTT, I believe, is purely for illustrative purpose. Someone tries reefer in September, then by June they are doing something much harder (heroin). Could also be that he wrote and recorded it in June. Prince wanted the song to have an immediate feel like a newspaper and I think he achieved that, especially with this particular lyric.
I don't think the song June has anything to do with SOTT.
It's very oblique and open to interpretation, lots has been said here in other threads.

Junglehop	....yeah Prince is just illustrating 'time' passing and what can happen. In September his cousin tried reefer (marijuana) for the very first time and by June, only 9 months later, he was doing horse (heroin)… so in under a year his cousin went from a first time drug user to a junkie (presumably)

lynx	Well yeah, Sign O the Times is pretty self explanatory but I was just wondering if he was using that song specifically in reference to "June", I only say this since June makes no sense whatsoever from what I can tell...

Correct. He was saying it is the sign of the times that someone can smoke their first joint in September and then by June be shooting up. But then, many many years later he may have written the song June in a cryptic way referring to his lyrics in SOTT. Its possible he was saying well, here I am, this is me in June and guess what, Im doing the equivalent of horse (fentanyl)... Didnt make any sense at the time... but as he predicted at the beginning of the song, it did eventually.

Anyway, probably doesnt mean anything like that at all, Im just joining in with the OP's premise and suggesting a possibility.

lion88	I posted before that I think the songs are connected. The meaning of June in both song is 'it's too late' something that started in the past has not paid attention to so it got worse. Reefer -> Horse -> it's June Pasta on the stove -> Burned Pasta -> oh yeah, it's June The pasta in the song could be a metaphore for his addiction. Makes no sense yet but it will soon.
