Paul Simon on Prince

"Prince was a very sweet guy, the little bit that I knew him. We hung out once or twice, if you can even say that, because he was very shy. He didn't like to talk too much, but he loved to play. He liked to play, he liked to go to clubs and dance, he liked to make records. That [his death] was shocking news. Shocking and upsetting."

Interesting.

Complicated guy. Have heard everything from: he was so funny he could have been a stand up commedian, to that he was really talkative with friends, to that he did not have friends over much/it would tend to be awkward (85 Rolling Stone interview). Along with:he had a good heart, he was lovely, to that he was 'the most Macchiavellian person I ever knew' (a female sound engineer I believe said this) and/or suggestions that he was narcissistic.

...overall, my tentative conclusion (never having known the person) was that he was a very highly talented person who had a complicated mix of somewhat extreme sorts of traits -a tendency to some contractions because these are more likely the more intense you are. And I think that his creativity may have come from the energy he got with these contradictions. Even his love symbol, is like a balance of female and male opposites, transcending these, like his best music was transcending - Purple Rain is the epitome of this, easily.

Complicated man in other words. Very kind and generous in some respects, not so much in other ways that he probably was not conscious enough of. Perfect for what he was good at. And human like everyone.

i never saw these comments .. .

my 2 fav artists of all time .

True story - on the day Prince died , I was in my home office ... and I had looked up what Paul Simon was doing and his lil rift with Art Garfunkel etc .. .

then the news broke and .... when i confirmed it ... I thought wow I cant believe that Prince's funeral will be before Paul Simons ... so sad ... just so unexpected and such a irrational thought ...

Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.
