Colonized Mind This is my new jam for sure. I didn't listen to LotusFlower much. Giving it a spin now and CM just really jumped at me and is very relevant to the times. I read former threads and it's got many interpretations. I could not know what he specifically intended, but my perception digs it. I like this album. I just never spent a lot of time with it. My music collection is robust and around 2006 I started abusing shuffle. Surprise, surprise.

My music collection is robust and around 2006 I started abusing shuffle. actually one of my faves. prince was pretty deep at this point into jw philosophy, conspiracy issues of govt control (chemtrails and the like), and the whole idea of human subjugation or as some would even describe, slavery. i like that he continued to cut loose, intellectually and spiritually and became even freer in some ways later in his career. one of his most significant albums, message wise imo from later years. but then, they All had messages, so who knows "If u love somebody, your life won't be in vain

Family lives are pretty grim - I can only speak from urban America though. Families are different now, but the kids still need to have people looking out for them. Even fathers in name only. That kid you upload is going to get sucked up into media manipulation if there is no one there to help sort things out. Surprise, surprise.

I think he was reading a lot and maybe quoting from it just to throw the idea out there, to see what stuck. But when it came to most of his songs it was totally his perspective of it. If you just mostly consumed his releases, didn't really know the behind the Serbs stuff. It's all pretty "tame". Is there a song that mentions chemtrails specifically? I am blown away at what I missed lyrically with him. Or perhaps didn't miss, just wasn't in a place absorb it. The lyrics to Box of Chocolates stopped me in my tracks. Surprise, surprise.

I always liked this song too and certainly didn't find any of the lyrics touchy or offensive in any way. Since when it is bad to say that kids with no parents and guidance often turn out messed up? . Anyway I never delved into the lyrics that much anyhow. But the Lotusflower album is one of my faovorites he did from the last 10 years.

Right now, I have a CD I made in my car that I listen to while driving. Song 1: "When Will We B Paid" (Prince opened the 2nd show in Atlanta with that song.) Song 2: "Black Sweat (live from Piano and Mic show in Atlanta, and I can still see him performing this song, clapping and stomping his leg during one part of it.) Song 3: "Colonized Mind" and Song 4: "Free Urself" (because I had tweeted him, asking him to make this song available, he retweeted me, and then tweeted about the Free Urself t-shirts, a few hours later he deleted my tweet, and tweeted "Ask and ye shall receive (link to shirts for sale)" and then "BTW (link to Free Urself for sale) : )". Just those 4 songs for now are the only ones I can truly listen to. I haven't really been able to delve into any of his other music, not ready to. . "Colonized Mind" is very deep. And I know it's been mentioned above, but the part about "Upload: A child with no father, Download: no respect 4 authority. Upload: A child with no mother, Download: A hard time showing love," gets to me each and every time, growing up in foster homes and group homes, I've seen the evidence of this. I've also experienced the "hard time showing love" and am very guarded. I think, perhaps, it is because of this verse that I gravitated towards this song. Of course, it's not true for every person out there. There are always exceptions, and those exceptions don't understand how others are not where they are and think it's ridiculous. But research has born out those two statements. And I grew up to become a social worker, working with kids at one point that were placed in a residential treatment facility, and I saw the evidence of those two statements on a daily basis. | |
