Did anyone ever make a Tony M-free version of the Symbol album?

I vaguely remember hearing about this on the org a few years ago. As a MASSIVE fan of this album (in spite of Tony M's contributions), I would love to hear this. Imagine Love 2 The 9's without that God-awful Tony M/Carmen Electra dialogue in the middle? So much better.

Am I correct in recalling that such a version exists (albeit fanmade)?

It's all or nothing, baby. Tony belongs on that album like Appolonia belongs on the Purple Rain album. They're part of the package. Oh and by the way, wasn't that Tony & Mayte? Carmen was on The Continental. All of these people make this album what it is, for better or for worse.

You could be right, they sound quite similar to me, both sound ditzy and contribution nothing of any value. Much like Tony M.

Still love the fuck outta that album in spite of it's flaws.

Yes, I remember such a thing. Several orgers had made Tony M-free versions of Diamonds and Pearls and the Love Symbol album.

I think ErnestSewell was one of them but he´s no longer on the org.

Right. Great. Now if anyone can make a Darth Vader voice/ fundamentalist bullshit lyrics-free version of The Rainbow Children, then maybe that album would be quite enjoyable too. wink

Ridiculous. There's nothing wrong with Tony M. He may be a generic rapper but that's the sound Prince wanted.

I'll just settle for one without Darth Vader. wink

Don't mean it's the sound I want though. I can abide him on a few songs, he doesn't offend me so much on The Max or Sexy MF, but he literally does a sonic defecation on Love 2 The 9's.

Well, that´s what he told me a few weeks ago. lol

Many of the new orgers seem familiar to me, despite their new usernames.

Yes Prince did occasionally have a habit of starting a beautiful song with a verse or two and then going off into some kind of weird riff or rap that ruined it. I guess he just liked to experiment, but Love 2 the 9s is one of the best examples of that. Dark is another one.

And me. D&P and prince. Those are two of the things I want most from the Vault, assuming there are versions without Tony. Or versions that could be mixed, assuming all of the stems are there...

And while we're at it, dump TC Ellis and Robin Power from Graffiti Bridge. That's 3 records in a row that would be significantly better.

Oh, and if someone has Chaos & Disorder without Scrappy D -- pretty please? As for Carmen Electra -- nothing could fix her GOD AWFUL record. Make that an instrumental only record and it still suffers.

Fanmade fakes are better off the internet. Please share those versions privately but not on P2P networks or direct download links.

Thanks for this. Looks like he did a LOT of editing. As in, removing ALL of the parts I hate in Prince's songs. If I can ever hear these tracks, I might have to update my "very best of prince" addition to that thread.
