Did Prince never have a common job?

Prince was giving a interview were he said he was flipping through the pages when he was young trying to find a job. And didn't see anything he wanted to do so he then decided he would stick with music, something to that affect. So who got him his guitar(s), amp(s), and mic(s) with no job. He was not getting along with his father at that time. So seem like his father didn't buy it for him. And this was before his 1st record contract. Seem like Andre Cymone in the early days sasid there was a guitar from somewhere given to him. Just wondering about some of his earlier history.

A long time ago he mentioned that he used to work as an usher.

That would explain his fondness of cinema, including European films.

He also talks about going to the movies a lot in the song The Good Life, though not as a job.

Well, there was that one time that he worked part-time at a five and dime… then he worked at Mickey D's, but got fired for giving away too much food for free.

I wonder if he ever really worked part time for a five and a dime, and whether his boss was named Mr. Mc Gee. wink

I don't know if it is 100% true or not, but a friend of mine used to brag that Prince changed his diapers when he was a baby. My friend's mother told him that Prince worked part time (for one summer in high school) at the day care he went to.

LOL. Yes I always remember that story about him standing outside McDs when he couldn't afford to buy some food. I wish I could go back in time and give little Prince a Big Mac and large fry.

The first line of Raspberry Beret is semi autobiographical.Mr.McGee was Mr.Ellis, TXT Ellis' father. He wasn't there long, he only wanted to be near TC's older sister.

I mean to remember that in an interview he once said, he went trough the whole of the yellow pages as a little boy trying to find something he would want to work as, and couldn't find a single job he would have wanted to do, so he put all his strength in becoming a musician, an entertainer.

...and BOY was he successful with that cool

I just stumbled across this in an interview with Andre Cymone:

" We had these summer jobs—me and Prince—working at a school. My mom would hook us up with these summer jobs. We were the entertainment for the kids for lunch period, so they had an hour with us. "

So he had at least one regular job!

Whole interview:
