Greatest 10 Seconds In A Prince Song

I did this thread here over ten years ago. Time to start it up again. (I wish I could just continue the older thread, but there seems to be no way I can. Those of you old timers here who participated on that grand thread will just have to write your answers here again.)

Here's a link to the old thread if you want to see what you wrote back then:

http://prince.org/msg/7/183333

.

.

I'm looking for the best part of a Prince song. The 10 second or so part that makes you hit the rewind button and play it over and over and over again. It plays, you absolutely dig it, then you play that same part again.
.
Example:
.
"Sign O' The Times" -
.
"September my brother tried reefer for the very first time. Now he's doing horse...it's June" and then that wicked guitar lick. Absolutely Prince's greatest 10 seconds. A) his lyrics were never more sharp. B) that "...it's June" is absolutely devastating, and C) that guitar lick as punctuation at the end of the lyric is insanely biting and brilliant. Fantastic stuff.
.
or
.
"Can't Stop This Feeling I Got" -
.
- the coda, the fade out, the final ten seconds or so of this song is Prince's greatest groove he's ever laid down. Absolutely bad-ass bass line with a ripping guitar solo over it. It fades out so I always increase my volume up to ten (and then unfortunately I get that "Lay down your funky weapon" from the next song blasting out of my stereo). But that final 10 seconds at the end of "Can't Stop" with the groove and solo is amazing. (I wonder if there is a full version of this song that has the coda groove not fading out.)
.
Any very short favorite parts to Prince songs that just send you to heaven?

First 10 seconds of Mountains.

I'm being serious. That buildup.

2:28-2:38 is goodness too.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Great thread!! There r so many of those magic brief moments that I constantly rewind.... a few that come to mind at the moment:

-

Let's Go Crazy: that mind-bending guitar solo at the end capped off with "take me away"...this is a song i have heard a million times but whenever it starts, I can't turn it off--- also the crazy piono part in the middle of the 12" extended mix.... that's incredible

-

The part in Comback where he sings "I cried...when I realized that sweet wind was u"... oh I have always loved that...but it so painful to hear now

-

the transition from 1999 to LRC.... just love the fade from the bombs going off to the 1st 10 seconds of LRC...I could repeat this all day!!

-

Around the World in A Day where he sings "say it backwards...I think I wanna dance" and then "funk on a stick!!!!!!" as the boys at peach and black would say

-

(There r so many...)

-

last one for now... Electric Intercourse where he sings "Come and take advantage...undress me.....I don't even know u I don't even care" Love how he sings that.............

-

oh yeah, then there's the part on I wish u heaven (par 1, 2 &3) that starts with the keyboard and segues into "this is excellent...this is so cool......" (I have had that part on repeat SO many times!!...always puts me in a great mood!!)

-

ok.... I'll give other people a chance.... so many amazing moments....thank God we have his music still!!!

The first 6 seconds of When Doves Cry. No guitarist in the world could recreate that, past living or future.

The first 10 seconds of If I Was Your Girlfriend. Sounded like music from another planet as did the rest of the song.

Any 10 second snippet from the breakdown in Life Could Be So Nice. The 'no one plays the clarinet, the way you play my heart' part especially.

The slide guitar part in the bridge in Dolphin. It's probably longer than 10 seconds but it's a beautiful piece to my favourite on that album

'Help me, I think i'm fallin. The phone rang and she said, who evers callin...' You know the one

The last 10 seconds of Shy.

The first 10 seconds of For You

The intro to What's my name... The first 10 seconds when he starts singing on My Computer. The lads in Kraftwerk folded up there penises and went home. biggrin

and hundreds more.

The scream in "Endorphinmachine".

The first note of the solo in "Gold".

The intro to "Purple Rain" (I used to try and loop that and Prince playing on the piano in Purple Rain on my cassette recorder back in the day - tryna mix shit. haha).

The breakdown in "Anotherloverholenyohead", where it's just the drums and a distorted guitar.

In "Alexa De Paris", when there's a build up after the first verse and chorus, then it just stops for a half a measure, then the beat drops back in, all calm and cool and shit, like nothing happened.

There's tons more.

The beginning of the song "For You" is what started it all.

"All of this and more, Is For You. With Love, sincerity, and deepest care. My life with you I share..."

And with his music he did exactly that.

A lot of great choices here. Two which haven't been mentioned: 'Adore', the breakdown from when he sings 'They know we need each other' (the following minute is one of the most perfect minutes in music for me), and the last ten seconds of 'Dinner with Delores'.

There are soooooooo many, this is hard!

- When he sings "It's June" and the guitar afterwards, in Sign O' The Times

- The intro to "Head" and the keyboard solo

- Intro to "Let's work!"

- The guitar solo ending "I could never take the place of your man" (longer than 10 seconds though)

- Intro to The Truth

- Intro to Boys & Girls

- Intro to America

I can think of many many more but don't want to overtake this thread wink

+ That howling/screaming in 'something in the water' from 2.30s

+ that intro 'I guess i should've known by the way U parked Ur car sideways, that it wouldn't last'...from 0.20s / and that breakdown around 3.15s with little scream and 'girl u got an ass...etc '

+Damn U - from 2.20s when he says 'like an animals just born 2 breed, come 2 think about cha baby, ur my only need.'

+ I wish u heaven (part 1,2,3) - around 4.43s when he says 'say hello 2 my little firend, the blue angel' and that solo breaks in...i wish it was longer

+ One Kiss at a time - around 2.50s when 'if every man, could love their women in a way i love u, time will stop [and here music stop with howling wind behind and another gentle clinking effect] and sky will fall'

+ Solo in the end of I Hate U.

+ in song Temptation there is a lot of crazy moments, like that solo.
