A very dumb comment. Not even biased rock critics agree with that shit. Mountains wasn't even written by him. Wendy and Lisa wrote it.

His song writing fell off just in the last six years or so.

Possibly because of the drugs. Makes me even more anti drug.

I'm a newbie on this site and even I can recognize how ridiculous this thread is. He is just trying to get everyone riled up for absolutely no other reason than to troll. He knows what wouldve happened when he started this thread. Mountains is an OK song in my opinion. He has plenty of other songs that are better lyrically and structurally. To be so dismissive of his entire catalogue after the Parade album is completely obsurd.

How beautiful do the words have 2 be
Before they conquer every heart?
How will U know if I'm even in the right key
If U make me stop before I start?

But what you're missing is the fact Prince was in complete control anytime he got on stage.

His call out for "Guitars and drums on the one" is something taken from his live shows

.

But what you are missing is this was on a record you buy in a store and play on your turntable...not on stage. That song "Mountains," as I said earlier, was a command performance. It wasn't on stage, it was over my radio, on my turntable, through my CD player. It was a man at the peak of his powers.

I didn't miss anything. I simply pointed out how flawed your logic is.

You claimed calling out "Guitars and drums on the one" - showed a man in complete control. Despite the fact we're talking about a studio song. What was he in control of? the edit suite?

It becomes much more impressive when you learn that Prince used to do this ALL THE TIME, without the safety net of a recording studio and edit suite. On stage where all a musician has is their skill.

Mountains is a spectacular song from a spectacular album and period.

I wouldn't say the last great moment lol Power Fantastic is very spectacular, even though it was created in the same time as Mountains

Album has some brilliant Prince tunes. "Strollin'" is about as good as a song can be. The song "Diamonds And Pearls" itself is stunning. A perfect pop song.

I don't want to bring anyone's head down, I don't want to spoil the party here, but Prince has not written a great song since "Wedding Feast" -- that's 15 years ago!
.
I just listened to "Wedding Feast" today and it is monumental. It is mighty. Majestic. MAGNIFICENT! What song since "Wedding Feast" can you say that about? Sure Prince has written many, many fine songs over the past 15 years, but nothing has come close to the masterpiece that is "Wedding Feast."
.
"Wedding Feast" - Prince's last masterwork.
.
Yeah, "1+1+1=3" is great, "Lions of Judah" is fantastic, "Like a Mack" is out of this world, "Guitar" is superb, and "a Million Dollar Show" is wonderful, but Prince was never able to come close to "Wedding Feast" in 15 years. (In all honesty, no musical artist has been able to come close to "Wedding Feast".) It's time to finally admit that from 2001 onwards, Prince never wrote a song better than "Wedding Feast."
.
The wooh is on the one!

I love Wedding Feast. That album was a great moment.

The song is playful poetic and colorful.

I said earlier here that "Mountain's" strength does not lie solely in its musicality. It is the essence, the confidence, the boldness of the song which elevates it so high. "Strollin'" and "Diamonds And Pearls" and others are finely crafted songs...but they don't have the wonder and power of "Mountains." It's like comparing Steph Curry to Michael Jordan. Sure Curry is a great...but he ain't Michael and never could be. Michael is "Mountains." Curry is "Diamonds And Pearls." (Hey, that's pretty good what I just did there.)
