Prince and his many talents

I read an interview with Prince going back about 10 years ago. He was being interviewed before an arena sized concert and he was asked how he wrote his music. He responded that he didn't write his music, it flowed through him by his higher power. Or to that effect.
And I believe that too. His musicianship, singing, dancing, songwriting...
Had to all have been G-d given because of how masterful they were. I am writing this because I saw a picture of the back of today's memorial service program which had a quote from Prince saying that he was clay shaped by the potters hand...
And it caused me to remember that interview.

He was a humble man.

Im impressed that his handwriting was so beautiful and moreso that he took time. A real gentleman.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

He was definitely downplaying how hard of a worker he was.

He was obviously Profoundly Gifted though he tried to hide it - many PGs cannot explain their knowledge, abilities or talents...they just know. It can also be a very lonely life as it's hard to connect with others except as a teacher/mentor and boredom sets in quickly as accomplishments are easy. Abandonment issues can further complicate a PG person such that control and paranoia will abound so many turn to religion to try and dull the pain of isolation -being a Lone Ranger with lots of friends in many places but no one to call home. It may be why Prince stayed in MN - desperate for stability and yearning for consistency and constancy he clung to the Lake Minnetonka area which offered him calm, peace and quiet.

Prince wasn't humble! Running to God because of the size of your talent is the dictionary definition of the opposite.

.

The answer to the riddle of Prince - imho - is right there in your post, but you've come to a different conclusion. His belief system didn't harden because of his gift, his gift made him question how he had it, and he ended up hardening his belief system. Which is almost like a personalised version of praying to God for your favourite Sports team.

.

Feeling that the work is 'flowing through you' is all about outrageous talent + youth. I'd suggest this didn't happen as easily for him in later years. Bob Dylan has said this exact thing. The songs wrote themselves during his glory years, but now he really has to work hard to find them.

.

If you believe excellence is god given, that will lead you into all sorts of philosophical issues. Excellence happens in bad people as much as good. And even when it appears positive - you mention Prince's dancing talent - sometimes it comes with a very heavy price.
