Which Prince lyrics give you chills now that he's gone?

I never realized just how many Prince lyrics refer to death. Which ones now give you chills when you listen to them? For me right now are the lyrics to Affirmation iii on AOA...

"How are you feeling today Mr. Nelson. I trust you're having a quick and enjoyable adjustment period. As you can see... we're communicating now telepathtically."

To be honest, all the lyrics in that song send chills up my spine. So good... and it's not even Prince singing!

The whole song "Last December" seems both introspective and a cry for peace at the same time. That is the song that has resonated for me the most.

"Maybe I'll die young, like heroes die"

or this one really got me:

"If there really is a God up above
2 him I owe my life 4 U my love
Now ... darling, if I died yesterday
It's OK "

Yes, these ones:

"In every man's life there will be a hang-up
A whirlwind designed to slow you down
It cuts like a knife and tries to get in you
This Spooky Electric sound
Give up if you want to and all is lost
Spooky Electric will be your boss"

Call People magazine, Rolling Stone
Call your next of kin, 'cause your ass is gone
He's got a 57 mag with the price tag still on the side
Cuzzin' when Spooky say dead, you better say died
Or you can fly high right by Spooky and all that he crawls for..."

Do I believe in god, do I believe in me?
Some people want to die so they can be free
I said life is just a game, we're all just the same, do you want to play?
Yeah, oh yeah

The entire lyrics to June.

I believe he is referring to himself being gone on this song.

Mr Nelson, Mr Nelson, can you hear my voice?
Sir, we know you're a little bit groggy
And you're probably going to find it hard to speak
But don't try to talk or process too much now
We just want to let you know that the medication you were given
Has put you in a suspended animation for quite some time
In fact 45 years
But where you are now, is in a place that doesn't require time
That saying, you are completely safe
And we are here to help you"

Yes. That's the one that does it for me as well. And unfortunately the first time heard this was after he died, so it immediately jumped out at me.

sad The cover for 3121 itself gives me chills. It adds up to 7 for one and 31 years after he recorded 'Sometimes it snows in April and 'Life can be so nice' he dies on the 21st of April. Jeez.

Oh and '7' itself the video. How many times does prince 'die' in a futuristic looking elevator?

was listening to Black Muse on the way in. Made me really sad when I heard this part talking about a possible future love in his life and a kid:

----

The next close encounter
Tell me how long
Will it be on land or near the water?
Will it produce a son or the black moon daughter
Or a pillow covered with all our tears?

.....1000 light years away from here

-----

1000 light years away indeed.

Yeah. I was at work when I first heard it and it definitely put me on pause for a few minutes.

I was going to say the same.

Arms of Orion really hit me. the whole song is haunting but this in particular:

In the heart of a sleepless moon"
"I'll be with U 4 ever"
"This is my destiny"
"'Till my life is through"

The arms of Orion that's where I wanna be
Since U've been gone
I've been searching 4 a lover
In the Sea of Tranquility
I'm drowning without U here, my dear
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

from colonized mind....the guy sure did think about a lot of stuff

Upload: a 2-party system
The lesser of 2 dangers
Illusion of choice
Download: a veiled form of fascism
Nothing really ever changes
U never had a voice

If you look, ur sure gonna find
Thruout mankind's history
A colonized mind
The one in power makes law
Under which the colonized fall
But without god it's just the blind leading the blind

I never wanted a typical life
scripted role, huh...trophy wife
All I ever wanted, to b left alone
See my beds made up at night
Cuz in my dreams I roam
Just trying to find, trying to find
My way back, back home

I've heard about those happy endings
But it's still a mystery
Lemme tell u about me
I'm happiest when I can see
My way back home

These "Fascination" lyrics from "The Truth" album really sum of his entire death. He knew what would happen with abusing medication, yet, he continued.

.
The pills gonna leave a side effect
That'll take another pill 2 correct
And the whole thing is leaving U feeling less than good

All of this and more is for you
With love, sincerity and deepest care
My life with you I share

His first song on his first album, its almost as if he knew his destiny was to share his music/life with us until his very last day. Thankyou Prince for sharing your life and music with us.

Not really a lyric but just watched graffiti bridge for the first time ever... And the 'thieves in the temple' video on the extras. Morris day's line "so how do you want to die?" ... Not cool! sad
It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

such a thing as time, oh baby
It's useless, so useless to me now

Notsomuch "chills" as "your heart stops beating and you are one with the cosmos". Not advisable hangover music.

Yes!, listened to those exact lyrics last night about 20 times in a row. I had disturbing thought about that last sentence, then found instant sadness.
A lot of his music sounds different now. Dont know why, not better or worse, just different. Even some of his songs that I really didn't care for (very few) or have the patience to listen to before, now seem more interesting. Perception is a weird thing, ain't it.

Two bits popped out on me that struck me some kinda way as I was listening to, of all things, My Computer

"Evil incorporated, blowing up bombs and thangs
I have a child, huh, I have a lot to explain"

"I called an old friend of mine just the other day
No congratulations, no respect paid
All she did was wonder if the rumors were true
I said, 'No, I ain't dead yet but, uh, what about you?'"

Definitely gave me chills as I guess I blocked out those parts of the song in ny head before I listened. sad

On hearing Way Back Home I thought it was ominous. Only dying men speak such honesty normally. I still believe it was his goodbye. And it didn't leave me feeling as though he was truly happy with life. To have so much yet not find what you need.

We're all different to an extent but I find the closest I get to love and life is when hearing my grandchildren say grandpa and seeing their smiling faces. My heart melts every single time and my eyes get wet.

I'm rambling smile

I watched it recently too and found a lot of imagery to be ...chilling. I was a pretty dark movie with suicide being a major theme I guess. I'm not suggesting that's how he passed but it makes me wonder how often he thought about it.

I agree he may have been upset with how his life turned out from the perspective of never really finding the one. I think Revelation on HR2 was him realizing maybe he should have made things work with someone from his past. Vanity or another...
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.
