Sirius to Discontinue Prince Tribute Channel

PRINCE FANS! MAKE YOUR VOICE BE HEARD! SHARE, SHARE, SHARE! Sirius XM started a Prince tribute channel on Channel 50 that has played all Prince 24/7 since the day of his death. Originally, it was set to run to April 29th, but demand had them extend that to May 6th. the demand continued and the new end date is now May 13th. If you want the Prince channel to continue on, you have to make your voice heard!

Send an email to their media contact Samantha Bowman at samantha.bowman@siriusxm.com or light up her phone at 212-901-6644 OR email their program director Joey Black at joey.black@siriusxm.com OR Ben Harvey at ben.harvey@siriusxm.com or head to LinkedIn and light them ALL up (https://www.linkedin.com/title/program-director-at-sirius-xm-radio-inc.) and tell them that we want our Prince channel on PERMANENTLY.

We realize that Channel 50 is the popular Groove channel, but there are other places on the Sirius XM dial where it can have a permanent home. Email or call them and share this with Prince fans everywhere. They have already seen the demand for it and have to keep extending the timeline for the tribute channel due to high traffic volume. But May 13 is supposedly the last day for the Prince Tribute channel and now is your time to say NO! Go now!

Awesome idea. I'll shoot them a message. Though I would say instead of getting rid of Groove (whatever it was, I don't have XM radio) why not just request that they create a new channel altogether, or maybe designate certain hours on the Groove channel for Prince.

I created a similar post, but I like yours better. If required, the org mods can lock mine and keep this thread.

.

.

I'm sending emails now, the Prince Tribute Channel has been making effort to play non-hits songs like Madhouse8 LP, Cindy C, Space, Come etc. Even while I'm at working, I keep channel playing even it I have to put it on mute during meetings. I'm sure they're reviewing the listener counts to assess if they should keep the channel or not.

.

.

This channel needs to be PERMANENT , even it they move it to another location. Tell your non-prince friends who's jumping on the P bangwagon about this channel, we need to increase the listenership. They can sign up for a free 30 day trial (they don't even take your charge card number)

The Groove is a fantastic channel. The only time I switch away is when they play Mariah Carey's cover of The Beautiful Ones. I have yet to hear a cover of Prince that I like. :nono:

Also, I wonder since XM has an online app as well, if Tidal sees The Groove as taking away business.

I was directed to this general form soo might as well send one to this one too

https://listenercare.siriusxm.com/app/ask

Just my speculation but I think maybe they needed some sort of permission for his songs because with his vast catalogue they were repetitive. I love madhouse but they dang near played both albums everyday

Yes, SiriusXM has both online app and Mobile App that you can listen on you phone.

I got a bit of a snooty reply from Ben Harvey, maybe we should not email this guy.

I am not involved with the Prince channel. Can you please tell me where my email address was posted? I’d kindly ask you ask people to stop e-mailing.

Great - we pissed them off. Now, it's gone for sure.

mad So WRONG on so many levels. Prince is a LEGEND. The man has more than earned the rights to have his own channel 1000x over! So happy I'm not a member rolleyes

Email sent. You'd think it'd be a no-brainer really. God knows there's enough music to drive a full-time channel...wink

Also, something to think about. They've extended this temporary run 2 seperate times. They wouldn't have done that unless numbers show there's demand. If that demand has continued, they'll also continue to extend until there's not. Again, seems logical.

Thanks for these additional email addresses. I've already emailed Listener Care (several times) but I will send an email to these other individuals.

I am trying to stay hopeful it will stay on as I heard even more deep cuts on the channel today! smile

I do love The Groove but they can keep that channel, too...just keep Prince!

OK, listen...

Just because The Groove is returning on Saturday, that does NOT mean that a permanent channel is not in the cards. But you have to know exactly how to convince these people and show your committment.

Online petitions? They yawn at online petitions. Emails are better, as emails must be placed in the public file as required by FCC regulations.

However, the absolute BEST way to try to convince SiriusXM to make a permanent channel, is to invest time and a stamp and write and actual letter. That shows that you are committed enough to the cause that you took the time to write, buy a stamp, and take the letter to the post office.

Then you have to write the right person. Whom better to write than the president of Sirius. That man is Scott Greenstein. His title is President & CHIEF CONTENT OFFICER. A few thousand letters on his desk, will go a LONG way to convincing that a permanent channel might be best for business.

Of course, when you write BE POLITE. Tell your Prince story. Let them know WHY a permanent channel is important to you. Oh, and be sure, if you are a Sirius subscriber, include your Account, ESN or Radio ID number in your correspondence.

Write to:

Scott Greenstein
President & Chief Content Officer

SiriusXM Radio

1221 Avenue Of The Americas

New York, NY 10020

When the channel ends, THAT IS THE TIME to really start hitting them with letters. If you don't turn up the heat and keep it on after Saturday...it's not going to happen.

Of course, there are no guarantees that this will work, but you are giving yourself the best chance FOR IT TO WORK, if you follow this lead.

How do I know? I ran successful campaigns for ECW Wrestling in the late 90's. I helped get ECW returned to a timeslot on the Madison Square Garden Network in NYC in 1996. I helped get ECW's first Pay-per-view event back on the schedule, after cancellation, in April 1997. I helped ECW's pay-per-views gain clearance on Time Warner Cable and Cablevision in 1998. And I helped ECW gain a network TV deal in August 1999.

I sent my letter, Priority Mail, on Monday.

When are you mailing yours?

Wish I had better news, but some friends of mine have been lobbying to get rid of a particular Sirius DJ for years now ("Madison," who's a shock jock akin to Howard Stern. Which would be fine on a talk station, but it's out of place on the 80s channel and one or two others.) Sirius doesn't seem to care much what its listeners think.

Hope this has a chance of success, have really enjoyed the Prince channel.

Has anyone heard if there will be another extension?

I've signed all the petitions, sent several emails, tweeted, etc. The outpouring of support on Twitter, Facebook, and elsewhere seems unprescedented! smile My next step will be a letter to Mr. Greenstein.

I wish they would extend this or create a permanent channel for him. I was listening earlier and they played the unreleased version of OF4S!

I know! sad It ended around 3am Eastern Time (US). I've listened 24/7 since 4/21 and I won't rest until the channel is back. Keep emailing, tweeting, sending messages via Facebook, and sending letters. This is the time to keep pressuring SiriusXM!
