If Prince Was Married Would Prince Still Be Alive?

I was thinking about how Prince died on the same day (April 21, 2016) as the day he was found passed out from taking heart medication and drinking a bottle of wine to soothe heart palpitations by Mayte Garcia on April 21, 1996. Prince was very headstrong and independent and thankfully back then he had Mayte on hand to call 911 to treat him. Notwithstanding his handlers organizing an emergency landing in Moline, IL to treat Prince when he had to be carried off the plane. As strong as Prince was, something tells me that if Prince had a wife, some of what transpired before his death would have never happened. For example, holding a Paisley Park After Dark event at Paisley Park for local fans to show prove that he was alive and well-maybe his wife would have convinced him to see reason and take some R&R away from music and strive to get healthier and maybe find other interests while recovering from his medical issues. Prince in the end, was a man and did so much with his life and made decisions for his life that suited his purposes as a musician and spiritual man who loved God. But I can't shake the feeling that he wouldn't have died alone in an elevator and that he wouldn't have had a way to call for emergency help in case of a grave situation if he had a wife. Apollonia and Shelby "threatened" to go to Chanhassen to make sure Prince was taking care of himself, but more than likely he waved them off by saying "I'm okay. Perfect, Save Your Prayers" but with a wife, it wouldn't have been so simple.

Then again he did send Mayte away to Spain so he perhaps would have done the same thing to his wife if he was currently married. He was a grown man who really enjoyed being alone and was old enough to take care of himself.

I don't know, if you are insinuating that a woman would have nagged him to no end, well, prince wasn't the typical american man. He wouldn't tolerate that, so, I doubt if it would have changed much. Just another thing to conjecture.

That's exactly was my point. I got a girlfriend and I don't like sharing my personal problems simply because I had a mom that nagged me to death about this or that. Unless, Prince a wife that had a backbone and dominant, Prince might have just kept his illness close to the vest or went elsewhere to escape.

We still don't know exactly how and why he died yet. Either way, whether it was a wife or friend if he hadn't been alone he may still be alive. However, Just because you're married it doesn't mean you spend every minute of every day together. The point is that you keep yourself alive, only you yourself can be responsible for that. The whole thing is just still too awful.

that's what i thought you meant, but no one, and I mean no one dominated Prince, ever. People say Larry Graham brainwashed him but I find it hard to believe. Many american men are like little boys in their need for a mommy, prince was not one of them. I could see him kicking any woman to the curb who wouldn't leave him alone when he wanted. What I don't get is the bodyguards, I mean, they show enough muscle to take people cameras and so on but not enough sense and care for their boss to damn near abduct the guy if they have to. I wonder what Hucky Austin would have to say on the subject.

Yes. A wife would have not allowed him to be alone after the airplane incident.

Hell I dont think this would have happened if he had a real girlfriend.

Bodyguards are also men and respect the personal boundaries of another man, no less a legendary musician and live performer like Prince. Strictly an employer-employee relationship with professional relaitonship clearly defined. I can understand why bodyguards didn't intrude on his wish for privacy for health matters. Prince was too headstrong and independent for anyone to challenge the state of his health care.

I don't know, that's why I wonder what Hucky would think. he had his ideas on what to do and what not to do and was often very critical of other bodyguards. Bodyguards don't necessarily have any integrity and or much else going for them. Elvis' were lowlives and even most of them tried to stop him from taking the pills. amy winehouse's were shown a few days after she died posing with her ashes. bodyguard means to protect from any enemy foreign or domestic I think. Part of the definition is LISTENING to them. I used to do security and it's not just about showing force, protection is more important, and that means telling people what to do sometimes.

i doubt he ever had a "real" girlfriend if you mean the kind that will bust your balls 24/7. A guy like him had enough clout to replace any woman at whim and I'm sure he did.

That's interesting you say that because bodyguards do guard their clients from external threats of danger but just like girlfriends could be replaced on a whim so could bodyguards. A wife is a life partner and the welfare of their better half affects her as well-romantically and financially. Girlfriends are interchangeable. I agree with emesem that a wife would have taken the close call with death so seriously to at least make it known to Prince that an event at Paisley Park, even if you don't perform is not a good idea.

all i can do is speak for myself, if it were me, I'd have spoke up and been fired. So what, been there before. No point having bodyguards if you won't listen to them sometimes. Muhammad Ali used to defy his by going right into crowds. I also heard from my old trainer that he was in a club with the great Marvelous Marvin Hagler when some people started some racial shit, his bodyguards handled it and got him out the back door. I guess he could have said "wait, I'm an all time great fighter i'll beat these guys up" but he actually has some sense and knew what he had these guys around for.

I totally understand. All of this hypothetical. I wished a bodyguard would have went against protocol and been more assertive about P's health scares.

people not listening to a word I said was demoralizing enough to where I didn't want to do it anymore and left. What's the point, you are suppossed to protect and then they won't listen? What's the point. But, of course, there is always a big fool willing to take a few dollars to bully people. That's not strength or integrity.

Pyschological research has already show that older people in couples or with partners generally live longer yes. One is less inclined to take risks. Makes sense. But that is not a reason to be involved just for the sake of being involved.

While I'd love to believe so, but knowing the way he was in relationships with his women (committed or not), I'd be lying if I said, "yes". Prince was all alpha. He did not take orders from anyone. In business or personal relatiosnhips. Could a woman put her foot down with him in regards to his health? ONLY IF HE ALLOWED THAT. And thats something we will never know.
