Prince's twitter account

Kinda depressing that it just sits there, frozen in time.

I'm guessing he operated it himself and his password was on his laptop... which only he had the password to. So what happens now? What does Twitter do with accounts after death?

Its quite a remarkable position to be in... for such a reknowned star to have so little management. Where business / record companies would usually manage this process in image and legacy presentation after death, with Prince there's nothing. No record company to create a sense of occassion and celebrate him, no immediate family to take the reins.... there's just a silence and a pause.

This is not the first time someone has died with a social media account. On Facebook, those pages get memorialized, which means all my PMs would be dissappeared with that person. So glad nobody told Facebook my hubby died. I sometimes log on and add photos. Can't do that with a memorialized page.

Problem is that @Prince is a very hot name. It's a real word. It's only six letters, this is great for the 140 character total. We're talking some prime tweet real estate. After 18 months of inactivity someone may want it and complain it's being wasted. A celeb like Prince Royce may want it or perhaps the Prince of England (will and Kate baby?!) so there may be an issue down the line. :(

Basically someone better screenie the whole thing before it gets coopted.
No matter the ©️, Paisley Park "official can never ™️ prince. He gave that to us verbally on Oprah in 1996. You can't take prince away from us, corporate. I mean O ( + >

Wow, I for one have the exact opposite response.
I'd feel even worse if his social media accounts were taken down.
Especially if he managed them himself.
Its like a little piece of him that can live on.
I'd be majorly bummed if they were to cease as well....

I was looking at his account just last night and it was making me so sad. It is kind of like it's frozen in time.

As far as what twitter does with accounts, I think they don't do anything unless there is a specific violation that is cause to delete the page. Cory Monteith and DJ AM's accounts are still up.

Aren't all of his tweets deleted already though?

I went on Twitter the other day to see if there was any sign he might've acknowledged me when I was tweeting him like crazy in February/March but there was nothing on his account sad

Well it would be a bit creepy if he continued writing it now wouldn't it? eek

Still I hope someone will investigate what happened to his Instagram 'Just when you thought you were safe' message and at what time it was deleted?!

What's more sad is the FB account of a friend who passed away suddenly... And the posts that eventually dwindle down to nothing...

Wasn't Prince's FB "hacked" about a year ago and it was assumed to be by a disgruntled former employee/ex? I'm not sure if that was ever confirmed, but like most celebrities, I am sure others have access to his social media accounts. I read that Twitter has kept verified Twitter accounts of the deceased active "as is" unless the account gets hacked and/or the next of kin asks for it to be removed. My guess is Twitter is just waiting to hear what the family prefers to do.

I'm so glad I got a screen grab of his tweet to me before he deleted it.

Yes this happened. Dr funkenberry chimed in on it, something about a young woman doing the social media work for free...scorned, and shouldn't have been trusted. Makes me wonder if it was that "Shameless Mya" from the Yahoo broadcast.

Ugh her video tribute to Prince bugged me so much!!!! I also read that some thught it was the former assistant he had just fired at the time of the hack, who, after he died, went to the press about how healthy and awesome, etc. Who knows if either of them could be THAT two faced, but man, still, hacking a former employee or even an ex's social media account for any reason is just not cool. As if he wasn't distrusting of the internet already.

I hope they keep his Twitter and IG up (despite the crazy comments now) because I did play catch up on some his IG posts from the past year and some were damn funny. The "choocolate overload" picture made me laugh out loud.

What's the deleted IG caption people keep talking about? And I don't know how that chocolate picture made you laugh...the caption was "chocolate overdose" and he was lying facedown...in light of what happened that picture made me sick to my stomach

I miss Prince's Twitter banter so much!!! I still go onto his page sometimes and still find it so hard that's he no longer with us!

I literally was in heaps of laughter at his hilarious replies to fans that literally were deleted within minutes (you had to be super quick to get a screenshot!!

Asking for captions to pictures which he'd then put on Princestagram lol

P.never retweeting anyone but copying and pasting - sometimes forgetting to include who originally tweeted causing much confusion to those who didn't get the "joke" thinking he was saying it....#iamtransformed LOL!!!

Debating with us about how to get his new CD out (HitnRun Phase II) and fans supporting him with his peer-to-peer idea. He wasn't going to sell it on Amazon or iTunes "Narp, they've got enuff 2 sell" (he changed his mind though, just after Id paid huge postage costs to ship from Electric Fetus to the UK...)

I miss his Twitter link sharing new artists with us & announcing his Purple Pick of the Week (for those who have Tidal)!!

I find Twitter pages from big celebrities rarely result in them actually listening or engaging with their fans, some are just controlled by managers or agents.

Prince's Twitter was run by him, and he engaged with us, because he cared about US, his fans, and I love him for that!!!

That pic changed just before he cancelled his shows because of flu. It actually had a teardrop rolling down his face but that was removed when the shows were rescheduled a week later.

I think it just reflected how sad he was about letting fans down.

The pic itself was done by an amazing artist Martin Homent (?) aka Redfoxbandit on Instagram. P. bought the rights to some (maybe all, can't remember) of Martin's work as two feature on his HitnRun 1 & 2 CDs and other merchandise. P. has them as a header on Twitter, the artwork is impressive
