Songs You've discovered or re-discovered since Prince's ascension...

For me:

-Pheremone - 'Kiss' of the 90's
-Muse 2 The Pharoah - Added it to my smooth jazz playlist, and I seek it out instead of casually listening to it when it comes on when shuffling my music.
-Take Me With U - Hard to believe, but I really never cared for this track.
For years I thought it sounded similar to Raspberry Beret but lesser. But now, I love it. I wasn't surprised to see Prince himself acknowledged the similarities and often paired them together for live performances. Late to the party biggrin
-Space (original Come version) - The Universal Love Mix was always a favorite of mine, but I'm enjoying the original version as well now. If you can get on YouTube, look up Stevie Wonder's 'Tomorrow Robins Will Sing (Wonder Westside Mix)'. It has a striking similarity to this song. Funnily enough, Stevie also recorded a song on that album called 'Cold Chill' that Prince himself remixed.

I listened to "Around the World in a Day" for the first time in probably 20 years yesterday and really enjoyed it.

I can see why some were disappointed - it doesn't have a lot in common with "Purple Rain" - but it's Prince being more introspective. Lovely in a lot of ways.

Love is killer. It's so strange that I have been on a Prince binge since AOA dropped, but I actually got into the whole 3121 album hardcore. Love kicked me off on it. So glad SNL re-aired Fury and Beautiful, Loved and Blessed performances, so awesome..

Since it has been on heavy rotation on Sirrus I rediscovered the work he did with Madhouse.

Since 21/4 I rediscovered "The Truth" (album), it was never my favourite before but I took another listen last night and absolutely love it now - especially "Don't play me" (very moving to listen to).

I'll admit I was one of those hardcore 80s fans who felt a bit put off by Prince's sharp turn into a more adult contemporary sound with Diamonds and Pearls and beyond. I enjoyed a lot of thsi stuff, but it felt like he wasn't making music for me anymore. There are so many great jams from the 2000s that I'm both discovering and redisovering.

Madsex

Freaks On This Side

Come On

Wasted Kisses

Get On the Boat

Future Baby Mama

Chelsea Rogers

Valentina

Ol' Skool Company

Funknroll

Also, Baltimore is so much better a song than I initially gave it credit for upon relisten. I guess maybe I was anticipating an angrier protest song in the vein of Sign O' The Times, but it really is quite beautiful.

Someone has uploaded Madhouse to YT. Last night on Sirrus every other song was a Madhouse.

i've been listening to Don't Play Me when i'm feeling bitter about all the love he's getting now that he deserved while he was still here (i know it's a useless way to feel & all the love is good, but now & then...)

the phrase "u couldn't play enough of me now / to make me feel like a star / don't play me, i already do in my car / don't play me" is SO JONI IN EVERY WAY. even what he does with his voice. i wasn't familiar enough with her when it came out to make that connection, although i knew she was a big influence for him.

it got a video and WB put it on The Hits, but i'm not sure if it went beyond "strong single" at the time. Lovesexy is a stronger album than it gets credit for, IMO. in SOTT's shadow (heck, in the Black Album's shadow, too.

It was a modest hit. It reached #8 on the Hot 100 and #3 on the R&B charts in the US.

For whatever reason, I hadn't listened to 1999 in it's entirety in quite a while. Now I can't go a day without listening to it at least once. Such a great album imo. Every track.

From now on, 4 U I shall be wild 💜

Thank you. Although the 3 hits are on side one, the other 3 sides are just as good. Love "Free." Peace. Thanks for the shoutout to 1982.

I've always been a big Joni Mitchell fan and when I discovered a few years ago that Prince was one as well it really warmed my heart. I have since noticed so many similarities between them in the way the lyrics are written and sung. He was such a kaleidoscope of sounds and influences, I am constantly re-discovering his work and could never grow tired of anything he did.
