Prince's 58th Birthday a month away: Is there anything we can ALL do?

Tomorrow is May7, a month from what would have been Prince's 58th birthday. Is there anything that all of us can do here on the org or elsewhere online to mark the occasion on June 7? Just a thought. Any ideas?

We could all not celebrate it in any way at all which would honour his memory by showing respect for his view on birthdays.

Except you can't make me love and respect the JW church like ever. What about the song June. Seemed kinda wistful. I can't pretend to know his mind especially the last few years. Maybe he couldn't escape it.

Funerals are for the living. And so is any memorial thereafter. It's for us.

I will never pretend to be JW for a second because "it's what he would've wanted".
No matter the ©️, Paisley Park "official can never ™️ prince. He gave that to us verbally on Oprah in 1996. You can't take prince away from us, corporate. I mean O ( + >

Excellent point, Lust, but I thought Prince "released" an old tune not too long ago on his birthday (within the past few years). Am I wrong?

And didn't he mark the occasion during his JW years, with his Celebration events?

I mean, if I call my birthdays from now on, "BARFDAYS", it's still a bloody birthday.

And any birthday once you get past forty is a barf-day. lol

Well in our hearts we'll know it's the day he would have turned 58 years old. I can't see how it would hurt anything to just show some kind of rememberance.

Fuck no. I never suggested we all pretend to be JW or any other damn version of religion. Just seems odd to me. A bit like commemorating a vegetarian by having a BBQ.

I don;t know why you need to be so mean about it - they were just trying to ask a question of the group. If you have something so mean to say, maybe you shouldn't even respond to the thread. Just a thought. Peace and Love.

Another member suggested a purple porch light, everyone could wear purple or no some kind of community activity - but since it is on a work day, that might be hard. Very thoughtful idea.

I don't know. Wouldn't that be just another day and as good as any to release a tune though?

I dont honestly feel that strongly about this either way and would encourage anyone to do what makes them feel happy. I personally feel odd commemorating birthdays of the deceased as its a bitter reality. "you would have been ?? If you were still here". A bit like a gameshow host showing a losing contestant what they could've won. Makes me sad.

Watch the Detroit birthday show. Listen to the revolution birthday show. Make a playlist of songs he'd written or released on his birthday - see princevault. Play his music loud as fuck with the bass turned up in your car or home with the windows open. Wear purple, yellow, peach and black, a fedora or a batsign. It's the little bugger's birthday - lets celebrate the shit out of him and funk and dance. He's gone, we're here. Do him proud. Love you all! hug

It would be awesome if a memorial concert was schedueled that day. I am hoping the idea has crossed The Revolution's mind, especially. Or open up Paisley Park to the public in celebration of his life, just for that day. Maybe I'm being premature?

Excellent question, Grog, and one I've been wondering about. June 7th will never be "just another day" for me.

I would be happy just to have a chance to quietly pay my respects at PP. Just a brief tour with Prince's music playing softly in the background. Not leaving flowers and balloons outside the fence, no other artists playing his music. Just open up the place for the week perhaps, make sure there's plenty of staff and security on hand. I don't even care if they don't sell souvenirs.

I am going to buy seven purple helium filled balloons and release them into the sky while listening to The Love We Make.... Then close all the curtains and re enact the look from the Dirty Mind video - dancing around the house in bikini underwear and an overcoat with the Dirty Mind album on full blast.... 👌😄😎

I think July 7, the seventh day of the seventh month, should be the Prince memorial day, which also marks the seventy-seventh day after his death.

On his birthday I am going to play the songs I can play from my piano books Musicology and 3121. It was him that inspired me to start playing in 1995 when Diamonds and Pearls came out. So I think I'll give him a musical tribute from me. And of course, pass on his musical gift daily to anyone I can.

Let´s just be nice to each other here on the org for at least one day, play his music all day long, send some newbies info on how and where to find outtakes , and celebrate Prince´s music, message and spirit.

I agree. We should take up a cause and follow thru worldwide.

1) wear purple
2) help someone somehow
3) let them know its on behalf of prince

June 7, every year

We are all part of his army. Lets show the world that he raised us right!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
