Did anyone post the 'lost' Rolling Stone cover story that they posted today yet?

If not. I thought it was worth the read:

Wow...great read

some real interesting stuff in there:

While still deeply Christian, he's also spent time studying what appears to be an Afro-centric interpretation of history, along with the physics of sound, some Eastern ideas (chakras are "science," he says) and a selection of unabashed conspiracy theories. He has thoughts on the JFK assassination ("The car slows down – why doesn't it speed up?"); AIDS ("It's rising in some communities, and it's not rising in others – any primate could figure out why"); and the airplane trails known in some circles as chemtrails ("Think about where they appear, why they appear, how often and what particular times of the year").

.....

He talks more about mentoring and helping peers, so I wonder aloud if he thinks he could've forestalled Michael Jackson's fate. "I don't want to talk about it," Prince says at first. "I'm too close to it." He goes on: "He is just one of many who have gone through that door – Amy Winehouse and folks. We're all connected, right, we're all brothers and sisters, and the minute we lock that in, we wouldn't let anybody in our family fall. That's why I called Chris Brown. All of us need to be able to reach out and just fix stuff. There's nothing that's unforgivable."

He seems to be hinting at past problems of his own, so I ask if he was ever self-destructive. His eyebrows shoot up. "Self-destructive? I mean ... do I look self-destructive?" This leads him to a disquisition on why he avoids talking about the past. "People say, 'Why did you change your name?' and this, that and the other. I'm here right now, doing what I'm doing right now, and all of the things I did led up to this. And there is no place else I'd rather be than right now. I want to be talking to you, and I want you to get it."

He tries to explain why he can imagine playing into old age, with a dizzying detour into mysticism via the Wachowskis. "Life spans are getting longer," he says. "One of the reasons is because people are learning more about everything, so then the brain makes more connections. Eventually, we'll be in eternal brain mode because we'll be able to hold eternity in our minds. A lot of people can't do that. If you can't think all the way back eternally, you can't think all the way forward eternally. Everybody usually thinks about a beginning, a big bang. If you take that event out, then you can start to see what eternity is. Remember in The Matrix where they said the only thing that has an ending had a beginning, and vice versa?"

Interesting that he said he goes long periods of time with no food or water and that people have to remind him to drink water. Also admitting that he doesn't sleep much. This was in 2014. Seems like Prince didn't take very good care of himself so he would be susceptible to colds, weight fluctuations, etc.

It really sounds like he was running from the past. I always felt like present-day Prince was jealous of 1980's Prince.

Thank you so much for posting that. That has to be one of the best interviews I've read from him. Pretty heavy in some spots.

why would he be jealous of his past? he could've continued his risque persona but he chose to do a complete 180 with his pro and private life.

I'm still trying to figure out when this "four years without an album" occurred.

A very interesting read, thanks for posting it.

I can't help but think that years of not eating properly, not drinking enough and getting little sleep must have taken a toll on Prince. As the body ages it does need more nurturing etc.

Does anyone have a link or saved text of the ebony interview where he was really honest and they were asked to take it down as it was 'off the record'? If it's still. Not allowed just snip this comment mods! Love you all!

The discussion about how Studio A has never captured things exactly as he wanted is quite interesting.

But wasn't there something else in there? It really doesn't seem like it could have been four years. I mean...he did the "Welcome 2..." dates in 2012. I guess there wasn't a "companion" to those shows.

He was feeding us stuff in between, though. I guess that's why it didn't feel like there hadn't been an album.

You know, I read this part, and my first thought was "Enablers"...

They come off as members of a benign cult. "It's sort of like an alternate reality," says Grantis. "It's an alternate universe being here, because we're in this awesome bubble of, like, making music all day. I have no idea what the date is, or what the day is."

Being so coccooned that you don't know what day it is, is nothing to brag about!

I thought it was really interesting, and kind of 'after the fact' really eerie. I think it was Sonny though thats just my guess. I had no idea Prince was so into conspiracy theories. I mean we've all heard him talk about chemtrails... but I've never heard him talk about JFK and AIDS before, has anyone else?

"I don't think about gone?" Is that maybe why there isn't a will? He just couldn't bring himself to do it, plus we all know the hatred of contracts... Sigh..

Well, as he wanted an all-girl band at the time, then surely it can only be Rhonda??

Can't imagine any bass player being 8 times better than her though!

Best thing I've read since he passed...and also confirmed a couple of thoughts I had on Prince...

Very interesting thanks.

.

Prince really lived in his own world. Not too healthy on the one hand although good for creativity. Not participating in general life mundane things like time, schedules, drinking water etc is probably why he just never though about death or freak accidents (stroke, heart attach) or anything weird. Maybe that's what living with security guards in public does.

.

I also wonder if he only bought back his music rights from Warner in 2014 if he wasn't just tired of all the fighting and thinking about the future and just therefore never thought about getting a will. It's just all so strange.... But not sleeping, drinking water, eating... no wonder he was so thin.

.

I also wonder why they never posted the article back then.
