Billboard Albums Chart Week of May 7, 2016 - Prince #1, #2, and #6

I apologize if this has been posted already. This is probably the case with many charts over the world. But for the Billboard Albums Chart for the week of May 7, 2016...

The Very Best Of Prince is #1

Purple Rain is #2

The Hits/The B-Sides is #6

That's awesome news. It's interesting to see people in different territories are buying The Very Best rather than Ultimate. Maybe it's the price point for casual listeners.

.

It's good to see HitnRun in there - even though it's quite low.

Several songs in the hot 100. PR and When Doves Cry in the top 20. Pretty incredible.

Yeah, the album isn't released physically until May 6, so not sure where the argument is here.

This isn't the end of Prince, at least commercially. Michael had multiple new top ten albums after his death and a top ten single ("Love Never Felt So Good"). And Prince has infintely more unreleased songs than MJ. Once the legal mess gets sorted, we'll be seeing new Prince releases for a long long time. And, sadly, they will probably perform better commercially now than they would have had he still been alive when they were released. If the Atlanta live album is released this year it could be number one depending on its competition that week. That wouldn't have happened had he just put it out himself. Sad that it took his passing for the rest of the world to remember/discover his greatness, but it is what it is.

.

Even as a longtime chart watcher I would of course give up any future commercial success to have him back. Obviously. And charts are irrelevent to art. But he's gone no matter what, so seeing his future albums in the top ten or top 100 or whatever will make him feel a little less gone.

But it won't be over... I get where you're comming from, after bowie and prince died I quoted Lord of the rings "I'm glad to be with you, here at the end of all things..." And that's honestly how I felt... Now I'm imagining the kids in the family growing a little older, starting to browse through my record collection as current music grows ever duller, discovering prince, bowie, Dylan, Zappa, Stevie,... That's where it will never be over.
It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

As long as Prince impacted your life in some form or his music made you forget your troubles for a spell, it will never be over. Prince will live on in his music and his performances and in the heart of everyone who he ever impacted. Some of us found him at the beginning of his career while others discovered the purpy man toward the end of it but we all love him regardless and we will always love him. Prince was the rebellious cat who told society to go fucking fuck itself and did his own thing and we still love him for it all these years later and we always will. When you get sad about prince's passing, remember that time you got butt ass naked and danced to "anotherholeinyohead". Remember those times when you tried to imitate the yell from DMSR and the neighbors thought you were being choked....you know little stuff like that. Those are the happy memories. I am sending you lots of hugs and the whole pfam is here for you hun and you are not alone.
