Wanting to honor Prince in some way (#PurpleMovement)

I've been thinking about this for a couple of days, a way in which we could honor Prince, something we could spread around the globe. I wrote this tonight quickly, and it still needs work, but I thought this would probably be one of the best ways we could honor the memory of Prince and his spirit (by carrying on his work of helping others).

.

I’ve not written in a few days, because I have been grieving the loss of Prince. His death has touched me deeply and this world will never be the same without his presence here on earth. I’ve been reading all the news reports, many are erroneous in their reporting, and I know this first hand. It was with great shock that I watched CNN reporting on the timeline leading up to Prince’s death and saw my tweet to him during the report, with the reporter claiming that Prince had said he was “#FeelingRejuvenated”. Prince had merely retweeted my tweet without adding anything to that tweet or taking anything from that tweet. That particular tweet was merely everything I had said to him. Regardless of what the news is reporting, regardless of the rumors, regardless of errors, the one thing they cannot take away is just how great of a person Prince was.

.

There are many stories coming out about just how generous Prince had been over the years, helping people and organizations. He never bragged about helping people. The news never reported on just how much Prince was involved in philanthropy. Everything he did in these endeavors was done from the heart, with love for his fellow man, to do what he could to alleviate the suffering in this world. These are the stories the news should be focusing on, not whether Prince died from an overdose of prescription medication. Why is it the news always focuses on the negative, but never the positive? Why do we always follow the traumas and the pain, but never the good? It boggles my mind just how negativity can spread so quickly, but positivity can stagnate in place.

.

In honor of Prince’s memory, to memorialize his philanthropic works, his selflessness, I would like to propose a movement: the #PurpleMovement. What I propose is that people from around the globe perform at least one charitable deed per week (or, when able, per da7). The only thanks that would be needed from these charitable acts is to ask those that you help to pay it forward when they are able to. These charitable deeds can be anything from meeting your neighbors and offering to help them mow their lawn, paying for someone’s meal behind you in the drive-thru, running an errand for an elderly person in your neighborhood, giving of your time to someone in need. Being charitable doesn’t always mean having to spend or give money. Sometimes the most charitable thing we can do is to just sit and listen to someone hurting. When you are offered “thanks”, just say, “This was done with love for one another, in Prince’s memory. No thanks needed, just pay it forward.”

.

If we truly want to honor the man Prince was, this is the most loving way in which we can do it. He lived his life, behind the scenes, helping those less fortunate. In memory of Prince, we can do the same.

Luv4U, did Prince get much airplay in Edmonton? In Southwestern Ontario, within reach of Toronto stations, Prince was appallingly ignored by the late 1990s, especially on rock radio. I've thought about it every which way I can and I'm pretty sure it comes down to homophobia, primarily (yes, I know Prince was, as Wendy and Lisa put it, not gay but a "lesbian in a man's body," but DJs that make homophobic jokes on the radio aren't so discerning) and maybe a little racism. Ie. I've never heard "Let's Go Crazy" on rock radio, and it went to #1. Rock stations made exceptions for Hendrix and Kravitz, that's it - and neither artist had a single that topped Billboard. Classic rock stations played U2 constantly, but not Prince. Or maybe Prince was just too fucking good.

Yes, but you know how top 40 is lol I would hear Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette, Let's Go Crazy and some others. Black Sweat did play......... I have not listened to radio in a long time. I sometimes listen to a classic rock station coz of the funny morning show............ radio is saturated with Rhianna...........
