So Prince and Sheila broke up because of the music?

Why did you leave the band?
I knew towards the end of the [1988-89] Lovesexy Tour that I was going to leave. Things were changing, the new music he was writing didn't feel right for me -- lyrically it was not saying much, he was cursing again and I had stopped cursing, and where was the melody? And I just didn't want to be around him.

Guess she wasnt down with Jughead but so nice they stayed friends.

Good interview:

I had always heard it was money. Plus, Sheila got very sick after the Lovesexy time. I forget if it was before or after her Sex Cymbal album.

.

They were back as a couple during the 3121 era, wasn't it? Then she announced she would not be working with Prince anymore after that. I thought I'd read that it was because he was letting someone else open on dates on his tour, instead of her. She felt dissed, and frankly - she should have.

basically. She did not like the new direction the 4th album was going in. She didn't want the band to end. But then she had some back issues which was followed by a collapsed lung. I new after the Revolution was disbanded that the SOTT/Lovesexy band wasn't going to last long. The Melody, this is kinda true about a lot of the 1989-Rave Batman 1990 music

Cat left the band, Boni took off for Australia didn't want to be a part of it.

I thought it was within the last two or three years when they had a falling out and she even announced publicly that she wouldn't be working with him again. I just took it that she was kind of scorned or angry at him like a wife/gf gets mad. He probably just rolled his eyes and took it. She wanted to marry him, but he just wasn't into her quite that much, although clearly he cared a lot.

.

Anyway, he was Prince so I'm sure the love of her life and got to be even more tough for her than it is for us and we know what we are all going through as fans.

They had two major fall-outs.

She said she'd never work with him again when she was publicising her tell-all book, a couple of years ago. I'd assume Prince felt the same way, after the book was published.

There were no public signs of any reconciliation prior to Prince's passing.

And then she magically reappeared at Paisley Park, within hours of his death.

And always being referred to as "Prince's former fiancé" in the media now, like that somehow made her the closest of the close to him.

How many "former fiancés" are there again?

Isn't this a case of when someone leaves you it feels better to convince yourself that you were the one leaving them? Like "I wasn't kicked out of the band, I would have left anyway because I didn't like the new music"

The wooh is on the one!

There's people in your life who u love, you may fall out & your path separates after decades together. It doesn't necessarily mean you don't have love for them still. Him suddenly dying before they could make up in some fashion is obviously devastating for her. Some of the things i see written about his friends etc on here, i just hope none of them read it.

It has recently been reported that she wants control of the vault.

If theres a chance she would censor or not release songs with cussing, I hope she does not get control. Whover handles it, should be open to anything he recorded, whether they like it or not.

Prior to turning-up at Paisley Park last week, like Jiminy Cricket on Tyka's shoulder, Sheila was notably absent from the Purple Universe.

Here's Sheila, in September 2014, saying that she'd never work with Prince again, unless God wanted her to... God obviously wanted her nowhere near him:

http://www.latinpost.com/...omance.htm

Would Sheila E. ever collaborate with Prince again?

"That's not in the book," she said as the audience laughed. "No, I don't know ... wherever God puts me is where I go."

Yes, but... Sheila can't remember when they became un-engaged, so she's practically still his fiancée. smile

How long were you engaged?
This is the thing: we were together for so long I don't really know when we weren't. We always loved each other. He really did care for me.

That doesnt sound like a straight up "no". I dont think she's being coniving or opportunistic. SHe certianly had a special place in the Prince universe but I think this "fiance" thing is overblown by the media. Would have to read the book to hear it fom her.

Remember that time when Sheila auctioned-off the Sign O' The Times/Lovesexy drumkit, on Prince's birthday, 2005? What a thoughtful birthday gesture.

I guess Sheila isn't all that sentimental about her possessions.

Oh! Wait. What's this, from a few days ago...

http://m.etonline.com/new..._a_museum/

"We're hoping to make Paisley what [Prince wanted] it to be. [He] was working on it being a museum," she shared. "He's been gathering memorabilia and stuff from all the tours, like my drums and his motorcycle."

"There's a hallway of his awards and things, which he really didn't care about too much, but he displayed it for the fans because he knows that they would want to see it," Sheila E. detailed.

I guess Prince knew a bargain when he saw one.

Then there was the time when Sheila introduced Prince to Latin jazz music circa 1977, because by his late teens, Prince had obviously never heard a Santana record.

http://time.com/3387754/s...view-book/

A lot of articles have cast Prince as a mentor for you. Do you agree with that? Because it sounds like you influenced him as much as he influenced you.

Yeah, he’s not as much a mentor. I think we influenced each other. I influenced him the same way he influenced me. When he came back to the Bay Area, I introduced him to my family, and he got to see me play with my family, with my dad, and play Latin jazz music, and he’d never heard it before. He was like, ‘This is just crazy. This is amazing.’ He loved it. We mentored each other, if you want to look at it that way.

Sheila was evidently far more into Latin jazz funk fusion than Prince was, as she was shagging the married Carlos Santana at the time.

You're probably not that far from the truth!!!

Saint Sheila is probably pouring gasoline around The Vault at this very moment in time.

And she was singing "funk" for darn's sake!

Sort of like how W&L introduced him to Joni and Eric introduced him to jazz.

I thought about that the other day, I really think he would of destroyed those in his later yrs.

I had assumed that Prince wasn't happy about her book and that she'd know that. Quite frankly, the relationship didn't seen that serious from the position of a fan. I never got the impression that she was his type and although he made have mouthed "marry me" during a show, I would hardly have taken that seriously unless I got a ring with it. But my sense is that Sheila had been waiting around for many, many years to see if Prince would claim her finally. I would have given that dream up once he married two other women but that's just me. There's no way to know for sure if she has just inserted herself into some kind of position with the family right now or do they really want her help. So many of P's associates go way, way, way back and certainly can off some input and advise. Sheila, although a viable recording artist herself was clearly not on Prince's level to be the most qualified to be in charge of his music. My hope is that the family hires some consultants, such as the ones that handle Graceland, and figure out a way to handle the future of PP and Prince's music. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis could be of value in terms of selecting and producing music or putting the estate in contact with those most qualified to execute their vision. I like Sheila and appreciate her willingness to help, but I also feel like she'd be way over her head. Just the talk of a tribute being months away makes me feel like she might not be able to handle it all.

I believe when they talked at times...He probably told her to get to Paisley if anything happened to him--and get there as soon as possible. (Or to get to where-ever he was...fast)

"Shelia had been waiting around for many, many years to see if Prince would finally claim her"....I always thought that too. I think she fell in and out of love with him and (to her) there probably wasn't any other man that could equal up to him. I remember in later years P would always refer to Shelia as his "sister"...which I thought was cool.
