The Essence issue is a commemorative issue -- meaning that it is ONLY Prince. Also, commemorative issues have no advertisements.

Yeah, I think it is a good one to get. My fav out of the collection thus far is the Time and Rolling Stones (the 2nd one they put out).

I've not been able to bring myself to buy any of the commemorative editions of magazines. The cynic in me thinks it's just a bunch of rehash, old ass pics we've seen a gazillion times, and the word "genius" overused (while I don't argue with the fact he was one, of course - but shit, use a thesaurus on occasion). I see folks on Instagram piling up memorial editions of magazines they'd otherwise not touch or pay attention to. It bothers me - not for them, but for me. They can do what they feel is right for them.

I also want to keep him alive through the stuff I already own, when he was alive. I just don't want to concentrate on what could have been, or focusing so much on his death. It doesn't bring him back, and I remember him every day whether the music is playing or not, or whether I'm watching my umpteenth viewing of The Beautiful Experience or a North Sea show on YouTube. It's a bit like a bride concentrating so much on the wedding, and never focusing on the marriage.

Maybe, while I'm accepting of death, I'm not quite as accepting of drawing a line on it all. It seems too final, and with the potential of more music coming - Prince is never really going to be gone. His body might be non-existent, but his spirit and his talent is forever with us. The term "Prince: A Celebration" is probably my eternal motto nowadays.

I'm only buying them so that when I'm able to, I can look at them. Don't want to regret not buying them when I had the chance to. (That's happened too many times when it comes to Prince, unfortunately.)

I've have a small amount of magazines. Haven't brought myself to read them yet. I'm not ready. Perhaps I won't ever be ready. I'm still undecided if I want to get more magazines right now.

Thanks to everyone who has provided lists/cover pics of all the tributes, it makes it alot easier to track them down I bought 5 today Uncut, Rolling Stone, The Source & Prince: A Celebration and Mojo. I will be on the look out for Ebony and Essence they look awesome.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who had to hold off reading any of them. I've had to do the same thing and just been able to do more than flip through them myself. The commemorative issues I've bought seem pretty good (except for People, blecccch!!) The regular issues with cover stories not so much (except for Billboard, good one!)

Yep. I put all of mine in a file cabinet. I'm sure I will be able to read them at some point, but not yet.

Only $156 -- not including shipping? Did Prince set the price? Folks would do better to put that $ towards the purchase of Terry Gydesen's The Sacrifice Of Victor, or Per Nilsen's The Vault.

Yes. You can buy the shitty non-commemorative magazines. Those are $5 (or more) and might have a paragraph, or a page or 3 if you're lucky.

Or you can spend the $15 and essentially consider it a Prince magazine. There are zero advertisements. It's only about Prince.

So, 150 pages of only Prince for one commemorative issue at $15 -- or $5 each for 20 magazines with articles about Tronald Dump and advertisements splitting up any articles about Prince -- that might make up the same amount of content of one commemorative issue.

$15 vs $100. Pretty easy to see which is the better deal.

And to be real, no amount of $5 magazines even comes close to ONE of the commemorative issues by TIME, Rolling Stone, Conde Nast, Newsweek and so on. I mean, it's great that US, Entertainment Weekly, Ebony, Source and others put Prince on the cover (if only to sell magazines) -- but that's where fans are throwing their money away.

It's great to see all the tributes out there. I've just gotten two - Conde Nast and Billboard. I'm loving the articles in the Billboard one. They have a great rundown on his top albums and what they meant musically relative to what else was going on... interesting perspective.

In one thing from Paul Westerberg, he said he didn't really talk much with Prince but recorded in his studio and would just enjoy seeing him float around in his PJs and stuff. When PW returned after an absence, he'd lost a good friend of his and Prince had the place filled with balloons. Reading about this kindness just made me cry. What a sweet story.

When I first saw it, I sort of freaked thinking Guitar World snuck a copy of The Undertaker CD into their tribute issue. But it wasn't Guitar World and the CD has nothing to do with Prince...

I enjoyed the Billboard as well. I just wish they had released a commemorative issue with all of their reviews from over the years, chart info, stuff like that -- but just Prince. No ads (like the other commemorative issues). And of course, all of those stories included.
