I sincerely hope they put someone like Wendy and Lisa in charge of that thing.

I don't like the idea of putting any band members in charge. They all worked with Prince only for a brief period and even during those periods they weren't with Prince all the time. He has worked alone a lot. No-one has insight into most of the recordings he's done on his own.

Let's just not assume they'll hold a garage sale. I trust it will be handled with due respect and security and no-one will be allowed to take anything.

.

Did I miss something? Did we read somewhere that a random person is pilfering through the vault, and about to hold an estate sale, selling off master recordings for $20 a pop? Did Paisley Park's doors just fly open and now random vagrants are running through the place, snatching up kiddies like a circus clown?

.

This is copyrighted material, and the remains of a person's estate. A person worth six digits before the decimal point. They have to get into the vault. It's part of the estate. The trust company has a vested interest in that. If Prince was the only one with the combination, then of course harsher measures are going to be taken to get into it. I mean, let's not lose reasoning here in the midst of our grief.

To me the saddest thing is that he did not trust anyone enough to share the combination of the vault. Someone who could never ever share this information with others. I know, you've got to really trust someone to give away this kind of information, a true lifetime friend.
I only hope they'll find a will in there.

It has been confirmed that select people employed by prince at Paisley would know the combination/ passcode, not just prince himself. That would be crazy. Michael koppelman for one was an engineer there in the late 80s early 90s and in his podcast afew years ago told how he knew the combination because he had to retrieve stuff from there whenever prince asked for it.

That would actually be comforting to some extent. I mean, I'd fear that he wrote off the vault and said to destroy everything in it. But then again, he also said in interviews that someone would probably release it, because he might not get around to it.

Can you remember which interview it was, I remember it so clearly but can't find it. He said something like, "I don't know if I'll release it, but someone will"

It was on The View. Not when Sherri Shephard tried to trick him out at the table. It was during a sit down interview on the couch a couple of years before that. It starts at the 2:23 mark.

It hurts to hear this, it really does. Stuff in there has been climate controlled for decades, you cant just compromise that in an instant. Also, you have to know some stuff will be stolen, people are just not honest, and the temptation for this in particular would be giant. What a shame it was done this way, there should be MAJOR over oversight on something like this from more than one entity.

I guess I'm alone in thinking its a good thing the Trust company is opening the vault?

The will could be in there, and no one else is getting to the vault first, which means everything will be painstakingly documented by a third party.

I do not think this is a bad thing, but a thing out of neccissity. Since currently there is not a will, everything will have to be inventoried. A value will have to placed on the assets. I do not believe there is some negative underlying reason for this.

Also, the trust company will need to ensure that once everything is inventoried, it will aid in proving any items that are missing after the fact.

I just think this is a necessity considering the lack of will and the current state of the situation.

I hope this doesn't sound callous, it's not meant to be, but I hope they recorded the opening and first views of the vault. That would be so fascinating to me.

There are one or two pics of the vault from back in the day. It's relatively boring as a whole, but knowing what's in there is what is fascinating.

Sheila's drum set from SOTT was in there! Who knows what else apart from the music is in there. Also, this is a bank, appointed trustee of his estate. People need to calm down. They will safeguard this place like the safeguard their own vaults. It's an asset of the company for the next 6 months, rest assured that it will be looked after! I too, am very nervous and somewhat sickened by the speed this has progressed, but the firm will be held accountable if anything goes missing or leaks. They could face a huge lawsuit if they were found to be mistreating an asset.

I'm dreaming:

Susan Rogers, Eric Leeds and Alan Leeds should handle it.

The perfect archaeologist group for Prince's vault.

They wouldn't mess too much with it, other than restoring/collecting it best possible.

+ Susan Rogers was the one who started the vault in the first place.

.

Then launch a website for all the stuff, so people can dig in certain time periods etc.

The complete legacy of Prince's music.

Quoted for emphasis. I hope people can stop getting hysterical over every detail that gets reported. Isn't this a routine part of the process when someone dies intestate?

What is taking place now is for the purpose of compiling a report for the probate court though. That's different than what you're talking about.

Personally, I think they should have gone all Willy Wonka. Prince and Paisley Park was the chocolate factory of music.

The should release a new greatest hits globally, with purple and gold tickets hidden within.

The winners will meet at the gate, and half naked ancient door men (like the Gett Off video) open the doors and let them in. Each of the winners will fail, as they do things like sitting on the motorbike or taking a selfie in the elevator.

When one remains, he/she is taken to the vault door and pushes the code, 7779311. They enter, and never return. lol
