Prince. Friday. August 31st 1990. The Tokyo Dome.

My first ever Prince concert.

Only my second ever real 'adult' concert - the first being Paul McCartny the year before (also at the 'Big Egg').

I was in high school in Japan (my father a naval officer).

I had been a rabid Prince fan since 1984 and I couldn't believe I was going to see him LIVE.

My best friend and I (and his girldfriend) head into the heart of Tokyo on the subway. As we got nearer the stadium I started to see LOTS of other Prince fans, mostly Japaneses fans but also a large smattering of American and European expats.

As we got off the train and exited the train station the huge, white bulbous form of the Big Egg started to come into view. My stomach flipped and flopped. I felt dizzy headed. I remember all around the concert venue large Prince Banners were hung, up. Him in a red shiny suit with his long hair pulled back in a ponytail as he hugged the Blue Cloud.

We found our seats and settled in. Around me roughly 55000 other fans too.

Then the DAT Intro started...

Then the opening electonic riff of THE FUTURE...

The light danced and spun...

The BASS rumbled...

Then THE VOICE...

I will never forget it.

* Then I say him again in 1996, 1997, 2000, and 2004.
