2 Y. 2 D. - Another Hint?

Listen I know I'm LOOKING, but like many of you, I've suspected he was in ill health for at least the last six months.

Listening to Phase 2 today and it hit me again how odd the titling of this song is. Thought it from day one. Why abbreviate it? Maybe another hint...

I think that 2Y 2D stands for too young to die. The song talks about a girl who is constantly being asked for things. She is too young to give these things. In the same way Prince had a need to give us music. He wanted to make him and his fans happy. It must have put him under a lot of stress. He couldnt deliver all these things to us. He was to young to be this stressed. He was to young to die.

To top all of this off the song talks about a will. We know that Prince did not leave a will. Why would he talk about a will in one of his songs? It doesnt make sense. The song says " The world can wonder right up until they hear the jucy gossip that's in her will". The song also repeatedly calls this girl too young to do this stuff striaght out. It talks about pretending and ignoring the problem of her being to young. Maybe Prince ignored problem of him being stressed. Or he just didn't want to admit it.

Im not sure if this is right and I didnt mean to offend anyone. I just wanted to give my opinion. (btw this isnt the actual account user. I'm her duaghter. I wanted to put my thoughts out there.)

Nah, it's exactly my thoughts. There's no reason to abbreviate that title. It should have been: 2 Young 2 Dare.

Instead, he made it 2 Y. 2 D.

Even the periods imply that it stands for something rather than "Dare."

And then the last song of his last album ends with him saying, "That's it!"

Just leaves me wondering. I hope he knew because he always said he'd live forever. I hope he accepted what was happening and put things in order, both for himself and for us.

I'm pretty sure 2Y2D was about Andy Allo. You can even hear her laugh at the end. In the song he mentions "the world can only wonder right up until, they hear the juicy gossip that's in her will." That's the closest we get to even indicating death.

Oh, I don't mean I think the song itself is about HIM dying. I just mean I don't understand why he'd abbreviate it. The first time I saw those initials, I thought, "2 Young 2 Die."

The song probably IS about Andy. But like CNOTE had nothing to do with the music, maybe 2 Y. 2 D. does not either.

It's about Andy Allo. Stop the nonsense.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Disagree. Time will tell, but it seemed pretty obvious he had some type of degenerative illness over the last two years.

I don't think this is true necessarily. "2Y2D" is not a hint. But I keep thinking about "Wait a few days before you waste any prayers." When he came here (Sydney) on the piano tour I kept talking about why he was suddenly being so personal and intimate, writing a book, why he was upset about Vanity... I said I thought he might have been dying. That was my theory the last two months. I think it's very possible that he knew.

He also said "I'm going to look for the ladder."

When did anything cryptic he said ever really mean anything?

And in this case I don't think it was even cryptic.

Hopefully someone in here is collecting all this bullshit that are found on the org in these days. It will make us a good laugh in a few months/years. Really can't believe how obsessed some people are in trying to find some hints, reading into any kind of stuff, or calculating the hell out of things.

Yeah, and what about the song

Sometimes it snows in April .?

In '86 how did he know he'd certainly die in April? ,!!!

People, get a grip. Maybe he knew, maybe not. eek

There's a lot of references about death, youth and ageing throughout his whole career, the musings of the majority of any poet putting pen to paper.
Intriguing, clever theories are two a penny.

Whatever, his death is bewildering, it's also difficult for me to get with it.
God bless.

And maybe we can all look back and have a good laugh at how typically internet-angry some of you all are discussing opinions. I'm going to chalk it up to the anger phase of grief, and I don't blame you.

The bottom line is that this is just a discussion.

Let me ask you naysayers this: if it turns out the P had a chronic illness and got bad news in the last couple of years, would you still say that there's not a single reference in his music? Would you still say knowledge of your own mortality wouldn't inform your writing and decisions?

Just curious.

I always found the 'will' line strange but lovely song.
