The irony...

Part of the glory of being a Prince fan, was defending him and your fandom to people that either didn't understand, or just has predetermined opinions of him. It was easy to do this and empowering.

Yet during these days, the hardest days ever for Prince fans, and almost everyone is a Prince fan.

Cause tomorrow is taking too long
and yesterday's too far away
and the reality that you believe in begins to bind.

Its a bit of a odd feeling. I am finding all the coverage kinda amazing but sad at the same time. I never thought i would would see Prince getting this level of attention while i was still alive! I thought he would out live me.

I always thought he would be 90, sitting at a piano in Vegas, never getting the love and respect he deserves from everyone.

The same thought made me believe that,

he would be appreciated more in death.

Today, I would happily take the former over the latter.

I gotta say, it really is a bit strange. I'm happy for all the recognition he's been getting, but damn, I remember getting so roundly shat upon most of my life for being a fan. The grunge years were particularly awful...

Now he's got an army and it's a lot more than 3 million strong.

All good things they say never last...

i hear this !

nothing seems to last that long these days, most of them will be gone by next month.

But a few true music lovers will have had there musical worlds trasformed, and that is a nice thought.

Every time I see his picture in a paper for a split second I think "oh, cool, they're doing an article on Prince" - and then I remember the reason

More hits on TMZ (7 million as of yesterday I think) than MJ for the entire period after his death. More Tweets too. Amazed!

All the purple lights on monuments all over the world.

The GM full page of the red Corvette in all the major newspapers.

All the London papers doing full front page coverage of Prince on Friday evening thought it was the Queen's 90th birthday and Obama was there and meeting with the PM.

Wall to wall almost non-stop coverage on CNN since his death and pretty extensive coverage on the other news channels like Fox.

Over 1M downloads of singles and about 233,000 albums downloaded since his death.

and on and on. I think we are all amazed at the coverage and the outpouring of love and just the general interest in Prince from all over the world. Even if people weren't touched by him for many years and didn't keep up, they realized how he impacted their lives several years ago I guess and quickly found out just how prolific and great he was until now.

I knew he had a lot of fans, but I'm surprised how many. I know the media likes to play things up, but I have about 400 FB friends and there were a quite a few who were either very upset or just felt bad and realized what a genius Prince was. He really had a lot more fans than I thought.

Most of the 'fans' I'm encountering don't know much beyond Purple Rain, Kiss and Cream.
"4ever strong as the wind that blows the Vikings’ horn in the name of the purple and gold"

That's normal. Even those that was critical of many of Prince's choices didn't mean they didn't love him or respected his talent. When he died, all of that cease to matter. Now we're all united in grief, and celebration of an once in an life time musical Legend. Prince. :'(

So true...but the serious fans need to loudly protect his future musical legacy.
