Newpower Soul is obviously not known as Prince's greatest album or album cover, but it contains a few tracks ranging from above average to excellent. I believe many Prince fans agree that the real gem of the album is 'The One', which contains some of the greatest Prince vocals ever.

I love Newpower Soul. No joke. For it's original sound--tell me of another recording that sounds like that one--and mix of funk-filled attitude and sentimentality.

My favorites are (1) Newpower Soul, (2) Shoo-be-do, and (3) Freaks on this Side.

As an aside, I also like Prince ballads, and those on this collection are wonderfully dripping of sap, honey and jam!

my views on this album are pretty well known, great discussion in a recent thread about NPS btw. I love the whole album, pure funky fun. For me its Freaks, Come on + Mad Sex which has one of Prince's best bass lines

I've always loved NPS. Mad Sex is one of my favourite Prince tracks, that jazzy bebop piano/horn line gets me everytime! And I love it when he sings in that nasty, obnoxious tone.
