One Nite Alone: Piano and Voice

I'm revisiting this album since the advent of the recent Piano and a Microphone performances. I haven't listened to it in years and I am still moved by it. Anyone who likes this current tour should listen to it. The tour performances obviously top it--but it is still lovely to hear. The Musicology piano performances were beautiful also. I really hope Prince brings this show home and branches out in the U.S. smile

I've been revisiting it too and I'm enjoying it more than when it came out.

Strangely enough, it seems he hasn't sung one song from this album yet on this tour. except for "a case of you"

I have never liked it, unfocused, boring piano music.... (sorry but it is very boring... a lot)...

I'd be down for him doing another piano album. One Night Alone is just gorgeous.

Completely disagree with the OP.

I love the piano medleys he used to do in the middle of live shows and love what I've heard from the recent Paisley Park shows... I even love the old Intimate Moments With Prince bootleg.

But I cannot get into this album. It completely misses the mark as to what makes all those other performances so amazing. Very disappointing release in that respect.

Now, if we get an official release of some of these current performances, I would be very excited and happily drop some dollars on a CD!!!

Just sayin'... wink

I would dieeee if he incorporated "Have a Heart" into one of the setlists. I don't think I have ever heard a live performance of that. Does anyone know if he's ever performed it?

Intimate Moments is great. I totally agree with you on that. I especially like 17 Days, so soulful. "Good God!" in a solo performance, nice.

I was disappointed with ONA when it came out. It doesn't capture his live piano performances of the live in the studio feel of intimate moments. But I grew to like it after I made a CD mix that is half Intimate Moments and half ONA, and I therefore listed to ONA quite a few times. The song writing and singing on a lot of the tracks is good, and the piano playing is good in parts. A few of the songs are weak, but overall it's a decent release.

Have only heard a few of the live ones and they definitely sound better than the album, but the album is great background music and a peaceful introduction for the non-Prince fan.

Standout tracks: Have a heart, One night alone, Pearls B4 the Swine and Arbortum. Avalanche is interesting, and Young & Beautiful lovely.

But now in comparison to his current tour almost pales. But then I haven't heard all the lives shows so I can imagine they're totally different. No wonder bootlegs became famous.
