This is the 1st track of a new album, it's probably going to be an instrumental/jamming type of record which is not everyone's tastes but just fine for me who would like the live jamming vibe in a collevtion of songs. Mono is front and center which is very cool for him. Prince isn't pictured plays keys and guitar. I wonder if they will have a name.

Didn't Prince say it's on the same album as Free Urself? But I think there could be a few instrumental tracks on the new album

From the TIDAL article:

Introducing the track for us, NPG Records writes:

“You may recognize Kirk A Johnson on drums, Mono Neon on bass and Adrian Crutchfield on sax and electric woodwinds as the house band 4 Prince’s Paisley Park After Dark Jam Sessions. Well, that’s not all they do. 4 the past week they’ve been cutting basic trax 4 their as yet untitled debut album. With Prince producing and handling the keyboard & guitar duties, the set promises 2 b picking up right where Judith Hill’s BACK IN TIME left off. These brothas murder the funk! Normally they wouldn’t let a track out until it’s finished, but this one had 2 go! It was ruining everybody’s good loox. If U think U can resist the funk, check out the key change of Mono’s bass solo at near 4 oclockmark. Exactly.

reminds me of some of the old prince instrumentals from the 80s (not sure which one, but wet dream cousin type shizzle). someone said it might be based on an old track called Rough.

I can't say enjoyed it. But I can't say I didn't enjoy it either. I think certain elements have the potential to make a decent funk song (like the recent W2A outtakes on HnR2).

Anyone else notice the same stock sample used in Groovy Potential?

So it does! Vocoder effect, doesn't sound like Prince and I recall reading Adrian was on some kind of vocoder

Just bought it off Tidal (the schmuk that I am) but it's the instrumental version - ducks sake. It plays the vocal version on the Tidal app but they must still have the instrumental one in the store.

Ditto.

What vocal version? I've only encountered one version, an instrumental. It has these slight vocorder moments near the last third of the song or summin like that. It's not anything that would take it out of instrumental status though.

What do you want to know?

.

The first version on Tidal was instrumental then this morning it changed to a vocal version. I went on the Tidal store to buy it, expecting the newer version with vocals but when I've downloaded it - it's the first instrumental version. Make sense?

Just seen your edit.

On my Tidal app (I'm in the UK) it now plays a version with vocoder from the beginning.

After 8 seconds or so it sounds like 'date night, 2016..'

I'm guessing you still have the instrumental version playing?

Very strange, looks like they pushed an incomplete or wrong version yesterday just to make in in time for Monday's purple pick. For those of you who bought the instrumental yesterday as a digital download, this could be a collectors item wink

"Vocals" make it a bit better but still not my cup of tea.

I see what ure saying now...I clicked on a retweet on mono-neon twitter feed of a Tidal sample of the tune and ure right, there's big vocorder vox to the fore in the 30 second clip. Very strange.

If I search ruff enuff, a return comes back as 'RUFF ENUFF - Prince'. It plays and all. If I searn mono-neon, a return cones back as 'RUFF ENUFF MONONEON'. It plays but is exactly like the other one. The Prince on doesn't show on his tab or nothing though.

They need to straighten this all out.
