Eye attended that panel discussion. Susannah had a lot of stories like that about prince. She almost gave the impression like she was married to him. She was VERY thorough about EVERY story she told.

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

I can actually see them doing Manic Monday(a duet somehow with Prince) as well

the Glamorous Life (Vanity 6 + Sheila E) or Sheila E (guesting Vanity 6)

Sugar Walls

I have an interesting viewpoint....

Vanity was the ultimate "nasty girl"...for her,it wasn't just an image or an act...it was really HER.When she left the group and Apollonia came on board,I think Prince realized that Apollonia wouldn't be able to be fill those shoes. She was a nice lady, but not the "nasty girl" that Vanity was.So I think Prince changed the direction of the album.Highly sexua songs like "Vibrator" and "G-Spot" were removed, and Prince began recording lighter,pop-styled songs for them ("Manic Monday" being the best example). It's hard to imagine Apollonia doing a song like "Vibrator" convincingly biggrin Even when she demands "all the nasty people, sing" near the end of "Sex Shooter",it doesn't sound authentic. That's why I hate that Vanity left when she did.We never got a chance to get that super nasty, provocative, outrageous, second Vanity 6 album!

Yes I agree, that wasn't a 'concept' that was Vanity

Apollonia would not be able to carry it off, but I think Manic Monday would have been a big hit for Vanity 6. And with Vanity's chili sauce on it, it would have probably had a different feel.

The (Skin on Skin) look would have easily fit the 1985/86 era though, especially for a Parade esque album. Manic Monday would have been perfect

Vanity 6 Outtake

Too Much is an unreleased track recorded in late March, 1982, at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio, Chanhassen, MN, USA (during the same set of sessions that produced He's So Dull, Nasty Girl and Bite The Beat). The track was recorded for possible use on Vanity 6's album Vanity 6, but the song is not known to have been included on any configuration of the album.

The seven inches or more, lol. Prince wrote that lyric, right?

Not to be weird, but I wonder if he had a 2 inch weenie, would the lyric have been different? "I need 2 inches or more".

Stick the 2 inch in the computer? sad

It makes me mad, hearing about all these outtake tracks that we'll probably never get to hear mad If this was anoother (non-Prince related) artist or band, the song would appear as a bonus track on a remaster.

Moral Majority is an unreleased track recorded in 1982 at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio,Chanhassen, MN, USA. The track was recorded for possible use on Vanity 6's album Vanity 6, but the song was not included on the release. Further work was done on the track on 1 and 2 January, 1984 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA (during the same session as We Can Fuck (later renamed We Can Funk), which was also labeled Moral Majority on the working order, as the track's title was not considered suitable), creating a version by Apollonia 6.

The track is named after the Moral Majority political organization in the United States which had an agenda of evangelical Christian-oriented political lobbying. The group was founded in 1979 by evangelical fundamentalist Southern Baptist pastor, televangelist, and a conservative commentator Jerry Falwell. The song opposed the movement, which clearly stood against the sexuality displayed by the likes of Prince and Vanity 6.

Vanity 6 version

  • Vanity - lead vocals (assumed)
  • Jamie Shoop - vocals
  • Susan Moonsie - vocals
  • Roy Bennett - vocals
  • Prince - all instruments (assumed)

Listening to "If a girl answers (don't hang up)" in honor of the thread. This shit is so funky I'm literally dancing in bed. Club banger, if I end up as a DJ, this track will be played no matter what occasion. I'm addicted to that bass followed by the funk guitar right after. My god, this is a unbelievable track. It's almost criminal when not being played at nightclub in my humble opinion. wink

heart heart heart heart heart heart yes yes yes yes yes !!!!

The music on this album is pretty tight, and Vanity 6 vocally are wonderfully playful and definately reflect what was happing in Uptown.

I was listening to the whole album again today, the music 4 Wet Dream Cousin Drive Me Wild If A Girl Answers have some wonderful sounds in them. I love the guitar work on the extended version of Drive Me Wild... Susan's voice is something tasty

Eye feel it was a special moment & Xperience 4 those in attendance only. Eye also enjoyed La.Reids stories. Toure' even though he did play basketball with prince. His story didn't intrigue me much. Since Eye had already discussed it with him seperately b 4 the event happen years b4 it.

One thing I will reveal. She said prince used to play her horrible, dreadful songs that he recorded just to get a reaction out of her. Then ask 4 her opinion on them. La Reid said the same thing. He would do it on purpose. She said he got a kick out of doing that... biggrin

I thought that is what she said he did to music execs and people like LA Reid. When he was talking about some horrible music Prince let him hear, Susannah told him, Prince did that to mess with his head

Know any other? Because we already know that about P. I recall reading a thread last year about a journalist that got called into his hotel room and was asked if they enjoy a dreadful song lol. Were these new songs or terrible early demos? Probably the former because demos are always good

Definately.
Anyone who can should hear the Time backing up Vanity 6 (and Jill Jones on backing vocals)

On the 1999 tour,Jill sang the vocals from behind a curtain,so do you think Prince should have just made her a member of the group? smile

Brenda was the rough butch character who had the pipes also. Vanity was the ultra sexy sex pot & Susan was the innocent little girl type.. I feel the group was perfect like it was. prince dogged Jill. But it was her that put up with it. I guess that's why she's so bitter. I communicated with her also.

yeah,Jill got a raw deal. She had to sit back and watch Prince focus on all these other proteges (some of them who weren't as talented as she was). When her album was finally released in 1987,the public didn't even care.

Sorta, or mixed her with the Family. I think Jill needed a support group. Like everyone doesn't shine when solo, but shine when with others. I mean Jill stood out in so many ways when she was on 1999 and on the tour a part of the noituloveR.

If a part of Vanity 6 it probably could have continued on as is?

You bring up a good point.Jill is great but she works better as part of a group. Not everyone can do the "solo thing".Vanity 6 could have easily been a 4-member group (like the Mary Jane Girls) but Prince probably would have had to change the name,lol....maybe Vanity 8? smile
