Maybe it's amicable. Shelby has beem working with Prince since 2006. He might feel it's time to cut her loose and let her pursue her own career. He also said Josh won't be mixing and producing for him at Paisley Park forever so he wants to work with him as much as he can in his interview with Miles Marshall Lewis. .

I wondered the same thing, for the same reason, especially when he very quickly turned the conversation to Liv.

On a related note, I saw 2 gigs in Chicago back in 2012, and during the 2nd one (night 3/3), it appeared that her mic was completely turned off. She didn't appear to be looking at a soundman to have it fixed. She just continued to sing into a dead mic with a look of extreme disappointment on her face. It made me feel like she was being punished by someone. I hope that wasn't the case.

How come Prince never produced an album for Shelby? Since she started working with him, he's produced albums for Bria Valente, Andy Allo, Liv Warfield and Judith Hill. In 2007, he had us chanting, "A star is born", so I find it strange that no album has emerged in that time.

He produced her sinlge North Carolina 3 years ago, and an album was announced. Why it never materialized is unknown.

becasue he knows that she'd work better with the ROOTS and Questlove..i did liek the NC song he did for her..No one checking for a solo Shelby disc..Right decision

Shelby has a great voice. On stage she never took her eyes off Prince.

In the context of the interview. He didn't say they were done. He said they probably wouldn't be working together much more (because she's doing other things).

Whether or not she's a nice person is irrelevant. I have never heard her voice add anything of much value to Prince's live shows, unless you place a high value on "Getcherhandsup, getcherhandsup, everybodyinthehousegetcherhandsup!"

I loved Shelbys big powerful voice and presence.

Shelby is great, and boy did she give her all for the years she was with him, she is a powerhouse.

Folks, Prince is constantly moving and evolving, this means cleaning up the house every now and then. This means getting rid of musicians that have been with him for years and that he surely has come to respect and love. It's not malevolent, it's just what needs to be done to progress his journey through this thing called life. Some people he works with may take it that way, but they shouldn't, they filled spots for years that most could never dream of. They were given an opportunity to be mentored by and play side by side with one of the greats. Not many can say that. It's the best gig in the land, who would want to go? But when they do, they should go with grace, humility and respect.

She was talking up a new project for several years and even named checked the Roots when saying she was "working on some things" but nothings ever appeared. My thinking is that it hasn't happened because she's probably not a songwriter like Andy and Liv were. So if she were to put something out then someone would have to write everything for her, and Prince probably wasn't interested in doing all that work for her. Both Liv and Andy have drive and would do what they would do on a small scale regardless, I dont sense that level of drive with her, although Ive always admired her voice and personality.

I think you're reading too much into it. People come and go from the Princecamp all the time. Most of the time when they go, they don't come back (there are rare exceptions, of course). It doesn't mean that they've had a falling out. We all know Prince likes to move forward with his band lineups.

I love her voice and was looking forward to an album. She did have a long run with Prince, though, and I knew it wasn't going to last forever.

i guess that means no "same page, different book" on Phase 3 i love that song.

Shelby isn't a typical Prince confection (we all know what this means), and fans don't like her because of it. The same way they didn't care for Tamar. So I'm not quite sure why everyone's shocked that there was no album produced. Besides, an album produced by Prince has even less of an impact than it did in 1985, so...Shelby hasn't lost anything. She's got a good chapter for her memoirs. Done and done.

I saw show #1 (I think the same tour) and his guitar didn't work. That was the one with an hour before the encore, time in which he fired the sound guy (and 3/4 of the sudience left because the lights had come on)
