Battle of the Songs: G-Spot vs Sex Shooter

Specifically, which Prince-penned song is the best - Vanity 6's "G-Spot" or Apollonia 6's "Sex Shooter"?

I vote for Vanity 6's "G-Spot" ^^

G-Spot is Jill Jones, not Vanity

I have always thought sex shooter should be sung by a male ... Otherwise the lyrics make no sense

Yes they do. Some women can ejaculate. And she needs him to be her "pillar of stone" to get off.

Sex shooter is a play in six shooter like a gun .. Furthermore direction indicates ability to point said gun ... i could hear prince singing this in his falsetto

Then that's why she's a sex shooter and not a six shooter like a gun. Plus it is her choice to hit you or the walls.

Does anyone know..,.is there a Vanity 6 version of "G-Spot"?

On many bootlegs, the V6 song "Vibrator" is followed by the beginning of "G-Spot" but it cuts off before the vocals begin.

There is not according to Princevault, but there is a version with Prince on vocals.

I have always imagined that Side One of the planned Vanity 6 second album would contain these three songs:

Sex Shooter
Vibrator
G-Spot

And I think I read that The Glamorous Life was for Vanity 6.

My vote for G Spot, but also the Prince version of it on all the boots. Jill Jones is fairly good too. Sex shooter is very poor except for the synth lines.

There is a passable Vanity version of it though, Apples could not sing and her vocals sound breathy and bimbo like.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Sex Shooter may be the worst vocal performance on an R&B song EVER, by a woman...Appollonia was an awful singer...and not all that beautiful either....i always imagine how much better Purple Rain would have been with Vanity, instead of Kotero

Three of my very favorite songs written for his protégées.

I cannot choose between G-Spot and the immortal Sex Shooter, I just can't.

G-Spot would make excellent orchestral music, a philarmonic orchestra would sound good playing that --- not that they should, but it would.

As for Vibrator, oh my!

(any couple managing to keep their clothes after hearing those three needs to see their MD pronto. Something would be wrong!)

Wow...pretty clueless.

The fact Vanity and Appolonia could barely sing was by design. What do you need? A disclaimer saying "Eh here's some great music that still sounds great when sung by people not hired for their vocal cords"?

In any case, Sex Shooter is a certified classic to this day.

The Revolution version of G-Spot. Otherwise, Sex Shooter.

This was very deliberate, in my opinion. This was at the tail end of the period when Prince was playing up the androgyny, and writing songs that played up the ambiguity on his sexuality. He did "Jack U Off" a couple years earlier, which used a term for masturbation usually reserved for a male...but directed it at a female. He's flipping the script here, using the idea of a "Sex Shooter", a term you'd usually associate with a male, but having a female deliver the line.

To answer the question posed by the thread: G-Spot. Jill Jones delivery is incredibly sexy, and the tune is classic Prince sex-funk!

I agree,Apollonia's vocals are awful on "Sex Shooter" smile Vanity was no great singer either, but she brought alot of attitude and style to these songs. Her demo of "Sex Shooter" sounds alot more genuine and convincing than the released version by A6.
