Now that I'm slowly getting over the huge speed bumps created by the older and familiar singles mixing with the new this thing is starting to boil a bit for me.

I was thinking of these "HitNRun" releases as more of primo outtakes from a significant era, but Prince is probably not scoring with any such "Chocolate Invasion" aims.

This album is just getting better each time I listen to it. It's an obvious 4 star album to me. I don't have to skip a single one of the songs either.

Agreed, there is a lot to love here. This album is so much better than Phase One!

I am not 100% sure though yet if I like the album so much because I am so relieved it sounds nothing like Phase One, or that the album is really very good on its own merits. Only (a bit more) time will tell, I suppose.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

You go first biggrin And why you ask

I feel this album is just fit for a certain age demographic, and I feel that's why many are praising this album...

I just feel it lacks energy, it's not a bad album at all like I said... But I think it's one of those albums that doesn't really have a "bad" song so people think it's great.

But a "bad" Prince album in my personal taste is one that lacks energy and is "boring" just like Planet Earth.

I actually agree here. I bought Phase 1 and my teenaged nieces and a fee girls who help me at work really liked it and considering they've been around me for years they are familiarof his old work but they enjoyed HNRP1 a lot despite hearing better from him. Phase one despite its.,,,,shortcomings is fun, just not the Fun Prince we're used to Phase 2 however is the Prince we know and love. I guess Phase 1 is for the kids and Phase 2 is for the older (I'm not that old lol) and Phase 3 he might tie it altogether

A staff member in HMV (uk) told me that a physical release is rumored for early/mid January. He stressed that this is unconfirmed, but it's what he's been told anyway.

May be something. May be nothing.

Where did the credits come from? are they on TIDAL? Noticed on princevault, John Blackwell and Michael B are credited for drums, which is cool.

Some have been on Tidal when selected for Purple Pick Of The Week and Prince tweeted some like Michael B playing drums on Groovy Potential

I'm 50 and as one who likes both "phases" I feel your evaluation is off the mark for me. I liked Phase One, but I can see why so many of his fans hate it. They hate modern/current sounds, and while I dislike the lack of art and craft in much of todays music I felt Prince did it right with all his idiosyncrasies intact. I don't feel that Phase Two "lacks energy", I just think it's more subtle and sophisticated, like a classic Steely Dan album. As one who has spent a lot of time recently listening to "Aja" and "Gaucho" and lamenting the fact that you can no longer have music like that in mainstream pop. Phase Two was right on time and just what I needed.

Let's hope. I heard the preview on Tidal (love it for what I was able to listen), but I only buy music on CDs or vinyl.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

We need a vinyl copy for one reason. CD may suffer the same fate as the download.

Regardless of the music when you try to play it on anything other than laptop speakers it sounds awful.

Purple Pick of the Week: “RUFF ENUFF”

Purple Pick of the Week features new tracks, exclusives, rarities and more — curated personally by Prince.

This week’s pick is the fresh and funk-inflicted song “RUFF ENUFF” by MONO NEON.

Introducing the track for us, NPG Records writes:

“You may recognize Kirk A Johnson on drums, Mono Neon on bass and Adrian Crutchfield on sax and electric woodwinds as the house band 4 Prince’s Paisley Park After Dark Jam Sessions. Well, that’s not all they do. 4 the past week they’ve been cutting basic trax 4 their as yet untitled debut album. With Prince producing and handling the keyboard & guitar duties, the set promises 2 b picking up right where Judith Hill’s BACK IN TIME left off. These brothas murder the funk! Normally they wouldn’t let a track out until it’s finished, but this one had 2 go! It was ruining everybody’s good loox. If U think U can resist the funk, check out the key change of Mono’s bass solo at near 4 oclockmark. Exactly.

Of course I knew the HnR P2 album was available as download on iTunes, but was pretty surprised after renewing my Apple music subscription that it is available for streaming there as well.

No bad songs except Screwdriver. For me, it's mostly very relaxing but forgettable music. Nothing really stands out about it. When She Comes sounds like Al Green music, Black Muse sounds like a Stevie Wonder song. Nothing special...

I like the shocking, uptempo Prince...not this stuff.

I'm of the mind that it's good to have less albums of great music than too many albums of boring music.
