So no Free Urself or If I Can Get Ur Attention. Still looks a stellar album. Will get it at some point and wait for the CD.

I just finished listening to it... It's ok.. Wouldn't say stellar, it's more slow tempo "elevator music" songs...

Revelation is the standout ofcourse, but I feel there isn't anything as powerful as Hardrocklover, 1000 X's & O's and June...

But still as an album it flows pretty well.

In other words, Prince the songwriter is still on vacation...

I need to buy a CD! cool cool

Same here, but given that I've already heared half of it and wasn't too impressed, I'm not in a hurry. What's the point of putting two year old tracks on a "new" album? It's more of a compilation album.

Proving he can slap any ol' thing on an album and some of his fans will go gaga for it? shrug lol

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

At no point does this feel like an album. The track selection is random as fuck and nothing flows into each other.

His albums have always featured older tracks. New Position was written in '82 and released in '86 just to give you one example.

Big surprise and overall very happy with it! Some older tracks that deserved to be on an album, and some nice new ones.

Don't mind the lack of Free Urself and IECGUA, they can be on Fase 3!

And the funny thing is that when you access the album on Tidal, the first tracks are those of HnR1, then the count starts at 1 with the HnR2 tracks.

Could be a mistake they'll fix, could be intentional.

Only big question is where the heck is FreeUrself? Is this a non album track?

Also: There you go, people who said there would not be a HnR2.

I feel a tripple album coming. Phase 3 on New Year's Day smile

Love 2015, great songs released, good vintage, someone experimental stuff, someone classic MNPLS sound. While most other artists of Prince's age are well into retirement we get lots of new stuff.
Thx Prince biggrin

I'm mostly talking about the flow of an album, something Prince has struggled with for a long time now. There are lots of horns on here, sure, but the songs still feel as unrelated as possible to me. It feels pretty much like another NPGMC release, 12 piecemeal tracks that were released online mostly.

But no one had already heard it nor had it in their possession. Had it also been on '88's LoveSexy, more than a few eyebrows would have been raised.

That's one "fact", not plural - and I only saw one where we mentioned WB. Other than that he was just talking about the contents. We haven't started making shit up, have we, Bart?

Didn't he say something about "albums matter"? Funny, cuz this is obviously "a collection of shite I had laying around".

.

Then again, mister "I'm not looking back" is also rehashing tracks that were recorded years ago. And previously he released a video of the first twenty minutes from a concert from a year and a half ago, and all of the songs they played were thirty years old. Yet expanded and remastered editions of his classic 1980s output are not on the table.

Yeah...indont like that half of its been released in some way.

That said... Between some on phase one, some on Judith's album, more on phase two, I've got some cool shit i really enjoy. More than an albums worth in a year.

That crazy2cool mess that's out as we speak, I could also do without.

You're right on the money here, Bart. This collection feels incredibly uninspired.

It's definitely better than HitnRun Volume One... but that's a very low bar.

I feel after listening to this several times... It is a more organic sound so I'm sure more of the "older" fans will say this is a great album, kind of like how many people say the same with Planet Earth... But other than REVELATION it's a very low energetic album... Nothing special. I'm not saying it's not a good album, like I said I think as a whole it is better than HitnRun Phase 1, but I actually feel HitnRun has three of the stronger tracks, amongst Revelation I feel Hardrocklover, 1000 X's & O's and June are the best tracks.

I still don't like the fact half of the album are old songs we have already heard in the last three years...

I know that. The difference is that R&R Love Affair and Screwdriver have been put online officially two or three years ago. The track you mention was unreleased until then. It's as if The Rolling Stones had put Honky Tonk Women (a single only release in 1969) on the Sticky Fingers LP in 1971. Back to Prince, this album feels like The Gold Experience, the tracks of which had also been available for over a year when it finally came out. It simply takes away the excitement of hearing a new album. And I enjoyed those Gold songs a whole lot more than these "new" ones.

I agree with you.

I mean all those 3EG era tracks he put on the website then, why put them now?? The only track I wish he wold put is the remake of Something In The Water.
