HitnRun Phase 2 Tracks

So far we know 3 tracks confirmed by Prince...

Revelation

Big City

Black Muse (Studio Version)

With speculations about the other tracks including Stare and Free Urself, do you think this is shaping up to be a pretty strong PRINCE album in a while, or just another average album we will forget about after a few listens...

It could be pretty strong, but he could easily fuck it with a poor running order - AOA coulda been a lot better without the bits where he slowed it right down and killed the pace. When was Black Muse confirmed - wasn't that from around the period of W2A? Fuck, there were a few kicking around then - We Live To Get Funky immediately springs to mind. Fingers crossed tho its sooner rather than later - remember how long Plec was trailed before it made it out?

I definitely thinks this could be a very strong album.
If the tracklist looks like this:
Free Urself
Stare
If I could get ur attention
2Y2D
Groovy Potential
Black Muse
Big City
Revelation
+ a few other unreleased songs
then we at least an album far better than AOA

Prince's greatest flaws are impatience and album sequencing. There's no reason why the last 2 years of music couldn't have been used to craft a stellar album other than his ego.

If he had a focus group instead of yes men, he'd be commercially relevant based on his recent work and not just his past.

To me, he's batting .333 since his "comeback" (AOA), and that was a double at best. He could have had glam/grand slam. It's quantity over quality all over again.

I can understand working with Lianne La Havas. But Rita Ora and Curly Fryz? I understand that he likes young women that have a skintone similar to his, but damn. Are we supposed to pretend that he remotely respects them as artists?

I hope he keeps churning out tracks and leaving them to WB to select the proper tracks to craft into a quality album.

"Olive branch"... Talk about a Strange Relationship.

If the tracklist is like this, it would be among my favourite albums. I love all these songs. (with the exception of Black Muse, as I've never heard of it). And I've been dying for a studio version of 2Y2D...

i hope "groovy potential" isn't on the album. we already have it in great quality.
it's a super great track, but i can live with it being a one off single on my drive,
and another new song i don't know being in it's slot on the album.

"revelation", now that one is very cool.

it's just a different sound compared to 'stare/freeurself/attention'. revelation is
so lush and organic and the other 3 are, although funky and cool songs, very
flat and lifeless in their production imo.

let's wait and see, but i do hope more songs on the album are produced like
'revelation' instead of those other 3 (if they are even on it).

ding ding ding. just thought of something:

Big City / Black Muse, those are NPG tracks. Revelation is prince but it stems
from the NPGQ sessions, musically, doesn't it? or am i making that up?

so phase 2 is basically another NPG album with Prince on vox for the most of
it, probably.

and phase 3 is then another prince solo album with Free Urself, Stare etc on it.

I hope all those aren't on it as we'll have half the album already like we did with AOA. Of course the unreleased ones like Revelation and 2Y2D would be good with some other new tracks.
.
If he wants to make the headlines he could throw Donald Trump Black Version on it confused

that's probably filed as a 3rdEyeGirl song, so who knows if that will ever be part
of an album since they might not even be a group anymore.

but, as with U Will B, who knows, maybe prince has a solo studio version of the

song somewhere on his computer.

so many songs to choose from cool

I just find it hard to believe there will be yet another album coming this soon. I mean I'd like there to be but Phase One is gathering dust on the shelves. I can't believe a Non-instrumental Prince album could perform so terribly. Peak position: #70? Out of the Top 200 in 4 weeks?

He of course would scoff at the suggestion but Prince now has to make another comeback after the perfomance of his last 4 albums.

Which is most likely why Warners is holding this album...

Free Urself

collaboration w/ Kendrick Lamar
Stare

Indifference
If I could get ur attention

collaboration w/ FKA Twigs
Black Muse

collaboration w/ Lianne La Havas

2Y2D
Big City

collaboration w/ Kamasi Washington

Revelation

(obviously the collaboration are things that Probably dont exist) but with Prince wanting to work with younger acts, (and most of those listed he has invited to Paisley to perform) this would be a killer album.

"Olive Branch".

Possible translations:

"Sorry I delivered PR without outtakes (still won't do it though)."

"Ok ok... that's it with the EDM stuff."

"Perhaps it was a mistake to let the girls write most of the songs AND let my drummer sing."

"So maybe I should have lost my religion for a few weeks and promote AOA better."

"In my defense, the Tidal advance was really nice."

I'm seeing lots of speculation that WB isn't immediately releasing the album because of quality, but what major label immediately releases an album after it's turned in these days, especially if it's not by a top seller like Taylor Swift or Adele.

I remember an interview Fleetwood Mac member Lindsey Buckingham gave a while back where he said he once delivered a new solo album to WB and they told him they couldn't afford to release it that quarter because they needed to make their quarterly numbers so instead of waiting he released the album independently instead.

It could just be that they want the stink of the commercial and critical bomb of "HitNRun Phase One" to die down and they may plan to release it by the end of 1st Quarter 2016 when they can plan for it in their budget.

Why!!?? We already have Groovy Potential. I would rather he leaves that and Get your attention off. I really don't mind if Stare and free yourself is not on there either. I want stuff we don't have yet.
