That time Bono forgot the words to "The Cross"

Does anybody remember the bootleg concert when prince had bono on stage and bono sang vocals to "the cross " while prince played guitar ? I think bono stopped after the first line cuz he didn't know the words .I have never heard this bootleg but I've heard about it .so what happened after bono forgot the words? Did prince poke fun at him ? Or did they quit playing the song ?

Bono was really mad at himself and muttered 'Christ' into the microphone.

That is when Prince decided to rename the song and change the lyrics.

The same thing happened years later when Prince first heard the song I Will Follow

(on a Glastonbury mixtape) and decide he could use the riff for his own song Guitar.

Bono basically improvised, stumbled and wailed through the bits he couldn't remember.

But the song goes through to the end with no comment from Prince.

I wouldn't even attempt a song I didn't know well in a setting like that.

Didn't Prince do the same thing to Seal a couple of years ago? Invited him up to sing and then played "Mountains"?

It's not like these are very well-known songs. You'd think that he'd quit doing this sort of thing. Maybe it's to embarrass the guest, but it more points out that his catalog isn't that well known by most people.

Seal guested on 'Mountains' with Prince at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2011:

It was a poor performance, and when Seal left the stage, Prince and the band continued the song, but started the lyrics again from the start.

The following year in Australia, Seal performed at a Prince aftershow and sang lyrics from 'The Ballad of Dorothy Parker' together with a 'Kiss From A Rose' (using the same improvised phrasing) over the slowed-down arrangement of 'I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man':

It happens all the time to some singers on stage...
Remember when P forgot part of lyrics of "manic monday" on stage as guest of The Bangles on stage back in 1986... His own song ! Lol

Didn't he invite Lenny or D'Angelo on stage once, and then proceeded to play Mad?

U2... I get the impression they actually turned themselves into a kind of hated band with their iTunes stunt, Not with me as such, but mainly with people who probably previously didn't listen to them or think anything of them.

On a side note, I was watching a documentary on HBO about advances on AIDS treatments and possible cures. It was by VICE...countdown to patient zero or something....

Anyways...Bono was in it...obviously. He was talking to a mother of a child in a hospital ward. He asked her of what her child's name was and she replied, "Prince.". He bent over real quick, and said to the child, " I love your early work!"

Very brief...but kinda comical. U get the notion the child had NO clue who Prince was outside of himself.

It really is comical, so he only likes his 80's period.

to me, it seemed he was kind of making fun of the assload of people who say that. I really dont know...it just seems that way. Cuz an assload of people say that about Prince, U2, Madonna...the whole 80's crew. Im sure Bono's come accross "I only like U2's earlier stuff" enuff to make him vomit. Thats coupling this with other things Ive heard about Bono Re: Prince. He really seems to like Prince's songwriting, performing, and musicianship even around at least musicology. not every song and every album...but he likes him. this is just vague memories speaking...not in mood to google this topic.

no musician can knock princes dedication to his craft...songwriting or performing...if u like it or not. His dedication is astounding. Bono's a twat...or doucebag or whatever...but I dont think he rejects proinces career post lovesexy.

ok i gotta stop rambling...my bad.
